This home is everything it says in the description and more! The setting is spectacular. Margarida was so accommodating and easy to work with. A basket of fresh bread, butter, and jams awaited us! Milk and juice too...everything we needed to start our vacation. It’s a short drive to Furnas so terrific location. Great place for long walks, bike rides, or kayaking. Our stay couldn’t have been better and I would love to return someday. Thank you Margarida for a fabulous stay!!!

Beautiful house in fantastic location
This house is even more lovely than the pictures show. There is plenty of space for a family to stay in and the location right next to the lake is magnificent. We felt very lucky to be staying there. There are delightful gardens which we had a key to access after closing, and it was very special to take our evening walks through them, seeing peacocks, a waterfall and impressive plants and trees. The town of Furnas is close by and also you can walk round the lake to the hot springs. At Furnas you can bathe in the warm iron-rich water in the Parque. We also drove to Sete Cidades which took about 1hr15 and was well worth the trip. I would highly recommend this house for a family holiday on Sao Miguel.

Wonderful
Wonderful 5 night stay on the lake.
It's a country palace on the lake really. The pictures hardly capture the beauty.
Three times the space needed for a couple, in an amazing location.
My only feedback is that it is advertized as " Breakfast included" which guided our choice of accomodation.
On the first day there was a welcome basket of bread, jams and cheeze, most of which I can not eat. There were no daily breakfasts.
So the claim of providing daily breakfast is not entirely accurate.
That changed the planning of our days from what we origninally imagined.
I would have chosen differently had I known ahead. Perhaps this aspect could be worded more acurately ?

Amazing Experience!
We loved Casa dos Barcos! Staying here felt like we were king and queen of a palace! It is so close to the lake that you can hear the water lapping up on the shore which is so relaxing. The stars are amazing and you can see them out of the beautiful huge windows in the house. We took a walk in the garden (which we held the keys to) in the evening when it was closed to the public...it was so peaceful and beautiful in there! We walked all the way to the waterfall (about a half hour walk) and it was so worth it! You could literally spend hours in this garden. The Chapel of our Lady of Victories was so beautiful. We were able to enter it twice with the help of Sylvia. Such a blessing. Also, the kayaks and bikes that were there for our use were so much fun and added so much to our stay. When we arrived Sylvia greeted us and showed us around the whole place. She was wonderful! So were Fatima and Margarida! They made us feel so welcome. Everything was so clean in the house. It was such a gift to be welcomed with a huge basket filled with delicious bread, cheese, jams and cookies from the town of Furnas which is just a short drive from Casa dos Barcos. In the town there was a beautiful Church (Our Lady of Joy) in where we were able to attend Mass twice! On Sunday the Church was packed! We also enjoyed the hot springs which were less than 10 minutes from Casa dos Barcos. You can get to so many amazing places within 10 minutes from the house, but we could have spent all our time right on the property and never got bored! We didn't want to leave! Can't say enough about this awesome place! Hope to bring our family here one day!

An experience not to miss
We were met at the house by Fatima, at 10:00 as she knew our flight arrived early that morning and she thought we might like to rest a bit. Really thoughtful and greatly needed! She greeted us with a basket of freshly baked breads, tea and jams. What a treat!
Later in the day she gave us a tour of the church located in the botanical garden. Its an amazing place. My husband, daughter and I hiked to the waterfall, the garden is breathtaking.
The house is wonderful. The ceilings are high, windows are huge and they look out over the lake which is directly outside the house. The views from the house are spectacular.
The rooms are spacious and the kitchen is well equipped. Coffee was provided so we could start each day with a fresh pot of coffee.
Our favorite part was walking in the botanical garden each day. It was so magical. We loved the fern garden, it felt as though we were in Jurassic Park. The house has bikes and canoes available for the house guests. If it had been warmer we definitely would have gone out on the lake.
Fatima was gracious and helpful. Don't miss your chance to purchase a magnet of the house. It is a photo of the house and lake, a great remembrance from a wonderful trip.
Thank you Fatima and Margarida for opening up such a wonderful house to visitors like us.

A beautiful historic house in a magnificent position
We had a wonderful 4 night stay in the Casa Dos Barcos in April 2016. We arrived very late at 1am and Margarida and Henriques were in their car at the end of the lake road waiting to lead us to the house. How kind! Fatima was also kind and helpful throughout our stay and her suggestions of things to do and see were always excellent.
The amazing things about this house are; its position on thelLake, the fact that it comes with bikes and kayaks, and the privileged position of guests to go into the Jose do Canto gardens whenever they want and with their bikes. These gardens are quite simply spectacular. Cycling over carpets of camellia petals, brushing through tropical trees and azeleas was unforgettable, as was walking in the gardens at night. Kayaking and geocaching by kayak round the lake was fantastic too.
The house was slightly damp and cold during our stay because the central heating had broken and was being mended whilst we were there. However Margarida and Fatima did everything they could to make us comfortable including electric blankets on the beds, electric radiators and dehumidifiers. I would say though that if being a little damp is the price to pay for such an amazing position on the lakeside, then I'm happy to pay it! The house itself is intriguing, with very tall ceilings and amazing heavy curtains. There are three bathrooms and endless hot water and an extremely well equipped kitchen.
We loved our stay here and will come back one day. Thank you. The Mackintosh Family, UK

An stunning property in an amazing setting
Sao Miguel is an amazing island with so many stunningly beautiful surprises all over it, and this property is one of them. One highlight of our 2 weeks was staying here.
The house is amazing, it's huge with plenty of room for the kids to explore and hide in. The view from the bedroom window in the morning of the lake spreading out in front of you is just idyllic. Margarida and Fatima were so welcoming and went out their way to make our stay as great as possible, The house has everything you would need and more. The welcome pack was also a real treat.
Having canoes and bikes at the property for us to use were great, The kids spent most of the time on the canoes or swimming in the lake. The ride round the lake to see the caldeira was great. The gardens and chapel were also fantastic to explore and to have the keys to it was very special so we could explore it when everyone had left, including the stunning waterfall (well worth a visit). The location of the property was ideal also for us to explore the east side of the island.
This property is perfect for those wanting to do loads in and around Furnas lake and the island, but is also a prefect spot for those wanting a very relaxing holiday in a stunning location.
Really amazing property. Absolutely a real treat and an honour to have stayed there. When you see the property on postcards being sold around the island you know it's a special place.

Idyllic location and wonderful welcome
It is a lovely house with lovely owners. Margarite could not have been more welcoming and we felt privileged to stay there.
The house is in a wonderful situation on the lake shore, and has a lovely homely feel internally. With canoes and bikes available for guests to borrow there is plenty to do around the lake, or one could just relax with a good book and enjoy the tranquillity. The walks through the forests and over the hills are great too.
The only word of warning is be prepared for the humidity - typically over 85%, and nothing dries despite the dehumidifiers provided. But don't let that put you off!

El mejor sitio donde alojarse
Solo con mi perra. La casa esta situada a pié del lago Furnas, la única. Comoda, con todos los servicios necesarios y mas, como bicicletas y piraguas. Pero lo mejor es el estar situado en un lugar privilegiado, rodeado de cientos de metros de jardines y bosque humedo, con gigantescos helechos, rio, cascada impresionante, vegetacion exuberante como si estuvieses en el jurásico, con una capilla preciosa. Y todo esto solo para nosotros, mi perra y yo.
la encargada Fatima y los dueños Dna Margarida, atentos a cualquier necesidad, pendientes, sin agobiar. Es vivir en un cuento de hadas. Fueron dias maravillosos y personas estupendas. Cerda del pueblo donde hay de todo, buena comida, termas calientes y paisajes fuera de lo normal. Explendido.

Spectacular location, marvelous hosts and staff.
Spectacular vacation location. We had rented a car and were able to access the entire Island of Sao Miguel. Having this comfortable,quaint and magical accomodation was the perfect end to each day. Our accomodation included bikes and kayaks for investigating the beautiful surroundings. Sitting by the lake in the evening watching the steam rise from the Caldeiras and the fish jump from the lake was perfect. Lovely ktchen and neccesary ammenities are available. Our host Margarida, her husband and staff were incredibly gracious and helpful. Can't wait to visit Casa dos Barcos again!!!
