Thank you for your review. We are a small family hotel and we take extremely seriously any complaints from our customers. Our policy is not to write comments in tripadvisor and let our guest share their experiences. This time we decided to make an exception. Due to the high level of disappointment of your comments, the owners and the members of the staff gathered to analyze what happened during your two days stay in January 2014. We came to the conclusion that the main part your comments are both untruth and unfair. The untruth part is related to the pricing. I have in front of me a copy of your invoice and the price you paid for the room was 108 € / night including breakfast and non-alcoholic minibar in the room (bottle of water, bottle of pepsi, cookies, fazer chocolate bar and chips bag). We don’t understand the reason why you mention that the price for the room was 130 €. We are proud to our honesty and highly disagree with the common policy of many hotels of advertising cheap rates on the internet and then charge afterwards for parking, minibar, breakfast, internet, etc. The prices you find in internet are the absolute maximum for one night stay and almost always (as also in your case) we apply lower rates when the stay is long or the customer has been our guest before. In our hotel once you pay the room you don´t need to pay for anything else afterwards (except of course alcoholic drinks). The unfair part of your review is that almost all of your complaints are for things that the hotel can’t help. You were very unlucky and had to stay in Lohja during the coldest week in years. The temperature was during those days up to -28 degrees during night time. As you can imagine, with that conditions there is no humidity in the air (neither in the hotel nor outside) so we all had to suffer the dryness. Evidently the bathrooms heaters were at maximum power so no wonder that your towels got dry so fast. We are pleased your room wasn’t cold. You mentioned: “Lohja is a nice, yet small town in Finnish province”. For that reason you cannot expect restaurants to be open for you at “Mediterranean dinner time”. The main part of the restaurants close on week days at 15.00 or 16.00 in the evening. The few which might have longer opening hours close the kitchen normally at 19.00. In winter time, if there are no reservations, some restaurants might just close without notice for the evening. We try, but is difficult to keep track of the restaurant’s opening hours because they change all the time. From now on, and thanks to your review, we started a new routine consisting in verifying by phone call that the restaurants are actually open before sending our guests. You also mentioned that “breakfast is relatively basic” but forgot to mention compared to what. According to Finnish standards, our breakfast is actually very good and many of our customers come just because of that. In our buffet you find every day: 4 kind of ham, turkey and dry sausages, 4 kind of cheese, herrings, 3 kind of bread and 2 of Finnish dry bread, porridge, sliced tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers, mandarins, kiwis, apples and bananas (picked up by hand by members of the staff in the market), fruit salad, 5-6 different kind of yogurts, boiled eggs, muesli, cornflakes, all-bran, cookies, organic coffee, cacao and 8 kind of tee and fresh apple and orange juices. Changing every day (1 or 2 per day), we offer as complement of the buffet also some hot elements: Carelian pastries; meat and cheese pastries; beacon and buns /croissants; scrambled eggs and buns / croissants; traditional sausages and buns / croissants. You also mention that “decoration is 30 years old”. Hotel Lohja opened its doors in 1988 and was built using the finest materials of its time. There were then two well-known designers taking care of creating a great place to stay. For some people the hotel is a beautiful example of the 80´s design and our family have obsessively taking care of keeping the hotel according to the spirit of the founders. As you might noticed everything shines as new and we recently renovated the furniture and changed the fabric of sofas and armchairs. We also make all the time improvements to satisfy modern needs as the brand new flat-screen televisions in the rooms or optic-fiber based ultra-fast wireless internet connection available in the hotel. We´d really like to see you again in our hotel, in a time which is not freezing and when the darkness of the winter is over. We are sure that afterwards you’d make a new nice review about the wonders of this small, retro and friendly hotel. In case you don’t want to come anymore, you will find other hotels through Lohja’s tourism website or you can also stay in big cities like Helsinki or Turku where you’ll find plenty of options. Best regards, Joaquín Jiménez Manager of Hotelli Lohja
