Camp sites and vault toilets were incredibly clean and well maintained. However, this campground is NOT for tent campers, primarily due to noise---traffic from the nearby highway and constant dog barking from a nearby kennel/training facility made it nearly impossible to sleep or relax whatsoever. On my particular visit, there were also loud RV campers playing loud, thumping music until nearly midnight, and I definitely didn't go camping so that I could listen to someone blasting Cardi B. I cannot recommend this campground unless you're an RV camper and therefore have slightly less chance of being bothered by the noise. Even so, beware....and be considerate of your campground neighbors, please.
This is where I ended up when I took a day off to get away from it all. Peaceful and quiet. Only a few others walking the trails. The picnic areas are available to rental. Fishing and hiking or just taking a walk in nature are all activities you could do alone or with family/ friends. I actually had my wedding reception at Stuart’s park years ago.
We have camped here at least three different times over the last 3 years. We go back because it is very peaceful, quiet, and well maintained. Of the reservable sites online, there are no bad camp sites for RV or tent. Each site has electric to my knowledge. Of the first come first serve sites, 75% are nice sites. A few would be considered to be set up backwards for a travel trailer. All sites are back in but two. Water spigots are located throughout the park for easy water tank filling. There is a dump station on the way out of the park. The bath houses are very modern and clean. There is a recreation area that allows for swimming in the river, volleyball, and many shelters for reserve. The park is about 3-5 miles from the town of Elkins. My only negative - if you do not have a reservation and intend of getting a first come first serve site, it can be a little hectic. The current campground hosts are not very up to speed on how to maintain camper traffic. As we arrived they told us to "hurry and find a site because there aren't many sites left." Now, knowing there are 2 sites left, I would imagine he could have told us the site numbers, let us pick, and went on to the next person. Instead, every camper was let in behind us to just roam around with their travel trailer to find a spot. Just felt like it could have been handled a bit different.…
Campground has wooded sites, all have electricity, clean shower house. Recreation area has a small beach and a large field for games. I have camped there for many years and it has always been good. The camp hosts are very friendly and helpful.
We stayed in the campground mid week in August on our way to the East Coast. Campground is a little out of the way - I should have found one closer to the highway. You really need more than one night in this place. Camp itself is beautiful but hilly. Most sites are non-level. Hosts are great. They offered to let us park in a more level site than the one we reserved, brought firewood out to us in the golf cart, and even gave me trailer driving tips!
