JoMae M's review detailing the nightmare experience at your hotel: I am a retired employee of AARP, for 25 years I traveled on behalf of AARP as the Brand Director and insisted on staying at a Hilton Hotel. For the past five years on personal/family travel, I have insisted on staying at a Hilton Hotel. But, this experience at Hilton Head, SC was devastating, I am in tears writing this letter for the way my daughter and I was treated. Let's start with Ms. Christina Yuschalk, Assistant General Manager. Ms. Yuschalk was very rude to my daughter and I. When we complained about the comfort of the bed, she said, "I forgot to tell you that there are knobs to make the bed comfortable." The beds we slept in felt like hard boxes, the beds sunked in the middle, the sheets and comforter was not the quality of Hilton Hotels. The Suite area had blood stains or what looked like blood stains on the carpet and we were afraid to use the area. We were told by Ms. Yuschalk, this was the only room available. I feel because of the color of our skin, she gave us the worst room in the hotel. She has a problem with service to African-Americans and desperately needs training. We watched her greet and service the Caucasian guests, with a smile and cheerfulness in her voice and even asked about their travel to the hotel. She needs training, not only an American History class, but diversity training as well. Ms. Yuschalk, expression and body language spoke volumes, saying, "You need to be behind this desk checking me into the hotel, instead of me checking you in." She never made eye contact, kept a frown on her face and very dismissive! When my daughter asked her about places to eat or visit. She did not want to converse with my daughter and directed her to a room with brochures. Please tell Ms. Yuschalk, the north won and my ancestors were freed. Also, share with Ms. Yuschalk, The Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, ratified in 1865, abolished slavery throughout the United States. My daughter and I are no longer considered property, we are human beings and expected to be treated as such. Our money is the color green! I'm interested in your course of action with Ms. Yuschalk! My course of action is to blog about this situation, discuss on Facebook and also advise Travel sites about my situation. I do not want another human being to experience what my daughter and I experienced. I am so glad, I changed my reservation from two nights and only stayed one! My response to JoMae M: Hi there,I wish that you and your daughter did not have to go through an experience like that. The reason why I'm reaching out to you is because I just came across Hilton's online response to your review, and it's truly left me speechless. I see that a Hilton employee reached out to you privately prior to the statement they made on your review. With that being said, I'd love to know if the person you had the private conversation with was as tone-deaf as the person who publicly responded to your review. Their statement is unacceptable in large part because they refused to address the racism you experienced in their hotel. I'm aware that this review and their response was three years ago, but this issue and issues like this are more prevalent now than ever. Shame on them. I'm not 100% sure but it looks like you might have been targeted based on the color of your skin, especially since you mentioned their shift in behavior towards white guests.

How far is your hotel from the beach area?
