No refrigerator, trash can, coffeemaker, nor breakfast before 9 AM.

The desk clerk was horrible. In an attempt to express my frustrations at not being allowed to get breakfast at 8:40 AM (breakfast is supposed to have been from 6 AM to 9 AM), the desk clerk became loud and chose to blame ME instead of taking responsibility over the matter. He demanded that we exit the breakfast area so he could clean it and told me to go get coffee in my room, in which I told him that my room had no coffee maker. He didn't care and continued his rant.

My room had no refrigerator, no trash can, no coffee maker, and was short a washcloth. I was treated HORRIBLY by the male desk clerk, which I later was told by a Wyndham representative there that this particular desk clerk habitually treats guests with disrespect and disdain.

His argumentative behavior and loudness escalated to the point that he threatened to have ME ejected from the hotel instead of doing what he knows full well was the right thing to do, which would have been to allow me to get a coffee to take back to my room, especially since that was the only thing still available before 9 AM. It was 8:58 AM by the time I returned to my room. And even though my original plan was to grab a coffee & a yogurt to return to my room to take leisurely enjoy in the quiet, I packed up and left the hotel right away. I felt way too uneasy and unwelcome by that time to want to stay long enough to take a shower before starting another long day in my travels.

No hotel guest should ever be treated with such disrespect & disdain by ANY member of hotel staff. It is graceful and sheds a poor light on the entire hotel.

This property should not be a Choice Hotels property until it's been certified as consistent with the company's global brand and standards. Still under renovation, it should not be open until it's ready to receive guests properly.

On arrival, the front desk gentleman said that because the lock was not working in our King room reservation, he would have to let us in. "They're working on the locks," he said, unclear about when. He was cheerful about letting us in 24/7. He did not offer a substitute room and implied the hotel was full. (There was one other car in the parking lot when we returned from dinner.)

He took us to our room (227) and used a screwdriver to lever open the door. The key card reader for the door lock, he said, wasn't working. When we returned from dinner, a woman colleague cheerfully walked up to our room and used a crowbar with serrated edges to jimmy the lock. Fortunately the door had both a latch and a deadbolt on the inoperable, key-carded lock so we felt secure against screwdriver- or crowbar wielding-intruders while we slept. There was no safe for valuables while we were out.

Inside the room, the bed looked comfy, which it was, once we removed a dead bug we discovered when we were turning in. The heater worked, which was good because there was no blanket, just a pretty cover.

But we discovered:

- New coffee maker had no carafe, no cups, and no coffee.
- No hangers in the area where you might hang something, and no rod to put them on anyway. The space was occupied by an ironing board, but no iron.
- No glasses, not even plastic, for those who might want water, for example, to go with medications or when brushing their teeth
- Brackets for towel rods, but not rods.
- No wastebasket
- Only local news and obscure cable channels on the television, even though there was CNN in the lobby.
- No phone in the room.

We were dismayed to learn that contrary to the Choice website, there was no free continental breakfast, or food of any kind.

The gentleman at the desk when we checked out first thing in the morning was utterly indifferent to our misfortune and offered us paper and an envelope to write down our complaints. He neither thanked us for our stay nor apologized for our experience. At the very least, he should have offered us $20 to buy coffee and bagels at a nearby restaurant.

After a lengthy wait listening to music and apologies for there being other customers ahead of us, Choice customer service listened to my complaints, and then asked me to hold "while she documented a formal complaint," as if she had not been doing anything while I was recounting our experience. The call dropped. When I tried to reconnect, the voicemail tree thought I was trying to reserve a new room and wouldn't let me through to an agent. I gave up.

We were visiting family and didn't want to delay seeing them, but we had had no breakfast before we set out to see them.

Unfortunately all the other reputable brands in the Youngstown/Broadman/Poland area were full for our one-night stay. We would be reluctant to stay at any Choice properties (which includes Radisson worldwide) because the Choice website lies, the service was deplorable and the hotel unready to receive guests. The palette of Glacier Bay plumbing supplies in the lobby should have been a warning when we arrived.

This hotel has potential, but right now (May 2022) it is not ready for guests. Originally built as a Microtel in the 1980s, then converted to a Days Inn, and (I'm told) having never been updated, the new owners are renovating this hotel. And while I understand the need for capital to finance the renovation, IMHO the hotel should not be open in its current state.

The good:
. Comfortable bed
. Bathroom appeared clean
. Internet access
. No bugs

The bad:
. No TV
. No breakfast (despite website description)
. No coffee (in-room coffee service not functional or clean)
. Noisy (thin walls)
. Filthy heat/AC unit filters
. Bad plumbing (shower)
. Grimy
. General disrepair

Even as one of the lowest-priced hotels in this area, it was at least $20 overpriced.
