We stayed in Francis' and his family's home stay for a week in Musanze and would highly recommend that you stay here. Firstly, Musanze is quite expensive accommodation wise, but Virunga Homestay offers beautiful clean and comfortable place to stay at great value for money. The homestay itself offers comfortable rooms, and fantastic shared spaces; including a large living room and dining area and nice balcony with views of Musanze's impressive volcanoes. As hosts Francis and his family are exceptional. During our stay Francis would continually help us with what we want us to do and would always be ready to offer support or advice; whether it was delicious and varied home cooked meals, laundry, or access to local swimming pools or hiking, Francis was always ready with immediate support. Throughout all this our privacy was well respected and we felt the full benefit of living in a homestay while being able to have time to ourselves whenever we wanted it. We were working remotely during our stay and had a great experience, having had difficulties elsewhere working in homestays in other places.…
Really accomodating place and host. Had a great stay. Francis the host prepared everything from breakfast to a driver to the Volcanoes National Park. Couldn't find any better. A nice balcony to chill after a hike.
All in all it was perfect! Francis (the owner) was caring a lot about us. When we arrived at the bus station in Musanze we were picked up by a guide named Kevin. When we arrived at homestay Francis was welcoming us very carefully. He brang us water and even let us decide in which room we want to sleep. The room was totally clean and the bed was super cozy. Every morning Francis offered us a very nice breakfast including toast, omelet, a lot of fruits, tea and coffee. It was a perfect start in the day. On the day we arrived we walked around the city and Kevin told us a lot about it and showed us the market and avocado trees and we had a nice dinner. The next day we went hiking to the Mountain Bisoke. Francis arranged the taxi for us and we had a wonderful day. They even cleaned our really muddy clothes and shoes for us. In the evening he prepared a traditional dinner for us which was very delicious. The next day we went to the Twin Lakes together with Kevin and hiked on a small mountain between the lakes. On the top of the mountain we had a wonderful view: on the left side we could see lac burera and on the right side we could see lac Ruhondo. After hiking down we had a wonderful boat tour and went to an island to a lodge where we had a delicious lunch and skol beer which tasted very good Organized by Francis as well. After like 3 hours of relaxing we went back to homestay and had fruits for dinner. On our last day Francis brought us to the bus station and also organized the bus tickets. All in all we really enjoyed the stay at Virunga Homestay and we can recommend this air BnB to everyone who wants to see the city and do activities on the Volcanoes Nationalpark. In addition You should really ask for Kevin as a guide. He is a young and funny man who was really nice and he showed us a lot around the city. He is the perfect man for this job and we really enjoyed staying with him, he made our stay in Musanze perfect.…
