We stayed 5 days in Maputo, we know the best beaches are on the North( Pemba) but is too far...2000 km. So , to feel the taste of the beach in Mozambique we went to this beaches near Maputo, around 30 minutes by car. We pay 500 meticais on the entrance ( but is discounted on the meal ). The beach is clean, long and only a few people . And the water good, perfect!!! We went to the lodge,friendly , clean and we had a good meal ( piri-piri grilled chicken) with the famous Laurentina !!
We spent three nights rough camping in the Maputo Elephant Reserve, and we specifically looked on the internet for a well-maintained and CLEAN campsite where we could take a much needed shower en-route to Tofo. We thought we had found just that when we stumbled across advertising for camping at Marracuene Lodge. We looked at the photos of the camping area, which looked very well maintained. It was also claimed that: "we have a huge camping area with very large and CLEAN ablutions containing six toilets and six showers". Given their photos and their claim we reasoned that it would be an ideal place to stop. Unfortunately, the reality is anything but what was advertised. The camping area looked nothing like the photos, the grass had not been cut and the ground was uneven. When walking through the site, I got a number of thorns and other undesirables stuck in my feet. Our biggest disappointment were the ablutions. We were offered the ladies ablutions (the male ablutions were locked) which were FILTHY, poorly maintained and only had one shower. We noted that there was no hot water, when we requested hot water, the person we were dealing with said he had to light the donkey, but when we checked about an hour later, this had not been done. We were so uncomfortable there, that we decided to leave, despite having already paid and not being able to track the guy down that we had paid. It was not worth staying, even at a loss. To the owner, if you cannot provide what you promise, then don't bother at all. We were not looking to pay to stay in filth, and would not have come if it wasn't for your false promises/advertising.…
