HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Great budget facility in a good location for access to St Johns, made all the better by the excellent service of the owner Prince who went 'above and beyond' to assist us! The place was spotlessly clean, well run with good Covid-19 protocols and protections in place. There are some shared facilities that were limited due to Covid restrictions, but these did not detract from a great experience!.
It was my first time to Antigua. Came to a friends wedding. I booked on bookings.com and picked the most affordable place as I was only going to be staying for a short time. Well I was surprised with Antigua - in many ways. First, the people are super friendly, easy going, and laid back. Our host, Prince, was awesome. He was very communicative before I arrived, giving me info and reminders of the trip. He's the highlight of our stay (second to our wedding reception). 40xCD per trip to and from airport. Originally I was going to take a taxi but when I was at customs, the agent asked me for an address. I couldn't find it online or anywhere in the info Prince sent me. The agent ended up calling Prince to pick us up as he was afraid we'd get lost. Oddly, I still can't find an address for his guesthouse! Second, the guest house is super clean and tidy. Prince and his daughter look after the place and take a lot of pride on comfort of his guests. Don't expect a typical N. American BnB. This is Antigua after all so set your expectations accordingly. The guest house consists of two rooms, both with king bed. The house itself is small (of course compared to N. American). Fully Air conditioned strong WiFi, small fridge and microwave in the room, shared bathroom, shared kitchen. There is a small veranda that only one person can use at a time, but we never had any issue even with the other guest staying. TV has 'cable' but it didn't work during the day. If you like hot showers, take it at night and expect it to be a short one! The guesthouse is not in the centre city. It's about a 15 min walk through a residential area. It's safe but just be warned it might seem your walking through a bad area of town. Last, it's pretty noisy. Late at night there is load music and the last morning a neighbour decided to have a live jam session! Music was good though. Third, as a country that relies heavily on tourism, I was surprised to see the area closest to the cruise ship ports to be so .... Run down. Streets were pretty nasty in terms of dirt and trash (a bit sad to see this but not different than a big metro city anywhere in the world), buildings are old, run down, lots of street vendors and pan handlerings. Since I did come and attend a wedding, the venue was on a private resort - Sheer Rock, Coco Bay. Wow! Stark contrast to the main city. Prince told us it's a swanky place but there are even more swanky resorts on this beautiful island. Price of food etc is pretty on par to N.America. Most things are imported so it makes sense. I'm not sure converting to xcd makes a huge difference. Overall, if your on a budget or want a different experience but also a great host, come here!…
