I first came there and thought how will we fill 4 days here. I could have stayed longer. So many hidden things to do. Hot springs on the shoreline, hidden beaches, snorkeling and we rented bikes and traveled around the area to find a lot of cool towns and friendly people.

Forget Bali! Come to Jailolo in West Halmahera to get away from the tourist throngs and experience real Indonesia.
The people are so friendly and there are great things to do not far from here: great snorkelling and diving, jungle trekking to see Birds of Paradise, or trips to volcanos.
Sukor dofu dofu (thank you) Jailolo.

We are here to participate in Festival Teluk Jailolo Festival 2016. We got to know about this event during our ADEX visit in 2015. I have no idea about this place, however we wouldn't want to miss the chance of visiting an some exotic new place.

We are all from Kuala Lumpur, so our journey begins there where we fly with Air Asia to Makassar. From Makassar we take a domestic airline Sri Wijaya Air to Ternate. I was under the impression that we have already however we were informed that we will have to continue our journey on a boat for about 45mins.

When we arrived, we were greated with the colorful celebration of Festival Teluk Jailolo, but we were more excited about getting ready to dive :) the festival is very well organised. The local authorities were everywhere and were also assisting you with your bags and transportation. We stayed at the best hotel in Jailolo, The Hook. The room is basic with comfortable bed and decent bathroom. Jailolo is surronded by volcanos and beautiful mountains. The scenary is breath taking.

Now let me tell you about the dives...the dives was amazing. The visibility was awesome. However, during our visit there it was always raining in the evening. The sea is a bit rough after the rain and the visibility will deteriorate. Among my favorite dive sites are Reef Jojo and Babua. You may have your own personal favorite too. One of the unique creature that I learn about here is coral mashroom pipefish (which i thought was worm at first). You can also spot mandarin fish at the jetty.

I love diving in Jailolo but I heard that diving in Ternate and Halmahera is also not bad. We met some amazing people from all over the world but we all speak diving language. Divers are always fun people. However, one element missing fron this year festival is the photo competition. I do hope they continue to have this festival. The underwater is truly heaven. Some say that it is like mini raja ampat. This is the nursery, and when the fishes grow bigger, they swim to Raja Ampat.

I hope Indonessia will preserve this island. I hope one day you will get to visit it too. Wonderful Indonessia!

Jailolo is the capital of West Halmahera, it is the nearest town from Ternate the capital of North Maluku province.it is easy to get to jailolo by regular speed boat of Feri boat from Dufa-dufa ternate, it takes one to one and halh hour. There are some hotels in town but tourists can stay with famillies in Guaria Village at the edge of jailolo bay.

The marine life in jailolo is probably the most protected one in North Maluku as the first meyer was a master dive he was seriously develop marine tourism in this area. the district government started the marine conservation in 2008 and now the corals are growing very well along the east coast from matui village to Guaeria Village untill Golao village, the small Island near Guaria is the best dive spot and Pasi Tofiri Island is the best snorkeling spot. we saw tourtle near Matui and walking bamboo sharks in Guaeria and also sharks in Tofiri. if you want to explore arround please contact us 0821 912354 67
