I found out about the museum on Trip Advisor and thought I'd go along. I didn't know what to expect but it was fantastic. The guide was very informative and it was great to find out about a piece of local history. The best bit was finding out about how the trust is still producing and its work with the Welsh arts community. Definitely worth a visit!

WOW! An absolutely delightful afternoon at Nantgarw China Works Museum. From the moment we arrived our party of three were made to feel so welcome by Debbie. We were then introduced to our lovely guide June, who with her encyclopaedic knowledge of all things ‘Nantgarw’ lead us on a fascinating tour of the house with its exquisite porcelain exhibits & china works. After the tour, we were seated at a table that had once belonged to the Pardoe family (one time owners of the house and china works) & tucked into a sumptuous feast of scones, jam, clotted cream, Welsh cakes, bara brith & a excellent pot of tea - bone china crockery made it even more special. Debbie & June could not have been more attentive or kind, the museum really is worth a visit & the cream tea a delicious treat. Costs: Tour £2.50, Cream tea £8.50 – an absolute bargain!

If you've gawped at the magnificence of Nantgarw porcelain on TV antique programmes or at St.Fagans or the National Museum of Wales, this is the opportunity to see where this little Welsh pottery created some of the most stunning porcelain the world has seen.
Restricted by Covid, you have to pre-book, but its £2.50 well spent in the company of an enthusiastic and very knowledgeable volunteer who guides your hour plus long tour.

Visited one afternoon as spotted signs when passing. Found it to be a fascinating piece of local history. Given a tour by an enthusiastic and very approachable guide. Run by volunteers and well worth a visit. Enjoy a small bite to eat and drink in the small friendly cafe.

Fascinating place with such interesting features, such as the restored kiln out the back of the property as well as all the pieces of beautiful porcelain.
The lady in the museum was most welcoming and the children thoroughly enjoyed visiting the workshop, where the modern equivalent of the old porcelain is lovingly made.
Overall a very interesting visit.

My daughter did some pottery classes at school so we thought this museum might be an interesting place for a quick visit. It was a stunning surprise. We had an extremely knowledgeable guide and the time we spent went too quickly. It was a perfect blend of history and the present. It is easy to find and close to other places to visit.

What a wonderful little museum just off the A470 north of Cardiff. Called here and had a fantastic welcome and tour by a male volunteer. Very informative. Fantastic displays of China old and new. Small cafe area. Well worth a visit .

Run by volunteers....this tells the story of Nantgarw porcelain one of the finest in the world but only made for a short time due to 90% failure rate.
£2.50 to get in. Can have a tour by June who is extremely knowledgeable.
Museum open Wednesday to Sunday.
Small gift shop.
Can get tea and cake all v reasonably priced.

For 3 years up until 1820 odd it was the world leader in decorative porcelain pottery. The location was well chosen for raw materials and the transport of the day as it was alongside the Glamorgan canal. Even now they produce pottery and give demonstrations of lower quality production unless you have the spare £2,000 for a hand decorated plate. In other words it is still a world leader.

For £2.50 you can spend an hour learning about the history of top quality porcelain with a small cafe incorporated. Beware that there a few steps to negotiate. Car park is opposite the museum. Closed Monday and Tuesday.

A hidden gem. Really helpful and knowledgeable staff. The garden’s are really pretty and the whole site has a great atmosphere.

At the end of the visit we had a pot of tea in porcelain cups and saucers and excellent Bara Brith.
