History alive

The beautiful church is perched on a hill, as one comes down the hill this very beautiful church scene unfolds. The setting reminds one of an English county church.
The church is very well maintained and the grounds and family graves are kept in an impeccable condition.
After the recent restoration the church building is in a very good condition. To think that this is a building of 150 years old, shows that a lot of work has gone into the restoration.
This is an active church and services are conducted every fourth Sunday of the month.
Restoration to the old school building next to the church is almost completed and is still used for functions.
Worthwhile a visit to soak up the peaceful and tranquil surroundings

This is what makes a strong community

This church celebrates the Nottingham group that arrived in South Africa in the 1820's. A lot of history in this amazing little church which is well cared for by the local community. Worth a visit. Who knows - you might recognise some of the surnames in the little cemetery.

A place of peace
set de 2017 • Família
The small white church stands on the hill surrounded by the graves of the 1820 British Settlers and locals from Clumber. It is the typical serene atmosphere where one can ponder and "find" yourself. The place is thick with history and while one wander amongst the well kept graves questions crop up of how, when and why. The community should be congratulated with the love that is poured into this place. If you are a descendant of any pioneer this is the place to re kindle the "spirit of old"

In the sight of God
jun de 2016
Accompanied by direct descendant Courteney Bradfield, I visited the Bathurst area and, with George Koning, was taken to see what progress had been made on the restoration of the Clumber Church.

Erected on Mount Mercy (named by the Nottingham party of the British Settlers) this, the third structure, was declared a national monument in 1980. To this day it remains under the auspices of the Methodist Church.

Inside I was able to see the original pulpit, harmonium and the 1902 Gors and Kallman piano, both still in use. The magnificent pews are constructed from yellowwood and the central cross was made from a broken bench. The overhead lighting beams down from 2 beautiful chandeliers.

Through a masterful fund-raising drive, much-needed funds were generated and I understand that restorative work on the interior of the Church s now complete, with the interior a work-in-rogress. In October this year they will be celebrating 150 years, but sadly I won't be able to attend that event, but I knw that in the able hands of these caring and dedicated descendants it will be an occasion to give thanks.

Easy to find with road signs along the way, Clumber Church s well worth the trip, not only for the beauty of the work done to the building itself, but also to visit the grave sites of 1820 Settlers.

This is a unique church- it forms what was almost a village at one stage. School and houses. Beautifully maintained grounds and grave yard, that reads like a book on history.

Absolut sehenswert.

Beautiful historic church, easy to find and allot of history. I did not enter as everything was locked up, but with Google and local information cards I could educate myself on the history.
