Great fun for the little ones
- animals look happy
- well maintained
- lovely toasted sandwhich/coffee in the cafe
- don't think zoo, think nice small kiwi farmyard where I can get right up close n personal

Downside
- the emu roaming around is slightly scary. Be brave and you'll be ok

We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere at this farm park. We were able to feed the lambs as well as the week old water buffalo. It was great to have these animals wandering around the park with us as it was awesome to get so close to the animals. The park is very well maintained and the owners were great!

We really enjoyed our visit. My daughter made friends with the owner’s little one (they are about the same age). We got to meet Tex the longhorn and feed an enu.

A nice and easy attraction for younger children.

I recently revisited Wai ariki and was surprised to learn that it had new owners. This is a great little place to take the kids or, if you are like me, just enjoy the company of animals. If you want to escape the busyness of Hanmer for a few hours then look no further. A great assortment of friendly animals with plenty of hands on for the kids. I didn't have time to try the cafe but the owner said that if I brought my wife back we could have a free entry.

Popped in here after a trip to the pools for our 2.5 year old to have a look at the animals. Mum, dad, 2.5 year old and a 5 month old (free) with a bag of food cost $32. Although it was a pleasant hour or so out with my son enjoying feeding the animals I thought it was a little overpriced. Patted a wallaby, donkeys, alpacas, sheep and a couple of cows. We were told to not pet the pigs as they might accidentally bite. The other animals were all very friendly and obviously well accustomed to people and being fed. It was pretty muddy and not great for pushing a pram but you can't help recent snow :)
All in all enjoyable but overpriced.

After the busyness of the hot pools the day before we thought we would enjoy a calmer day visiting the farm animals. We paid our entrance fee and decided to buy a bag of animal food (only S2) too. We both love animals and even though we don’t have kids, thoroughly enjoyed our time there. They all looked well cared for and loved being fed by the visitors. All of the usual farm animals are on display but there were a few unusual ones too, including the most adorable baby water buffalo and Texas highland cattle with the biggest horns I have ever seen. Unfortunately the eel tank was closed for repairs but other than that, everything else was open and on display. We had something from the café after we had finished walking around and sat outside in the sun enjoying our hot drinks. I’d definitely like to come back next time we are in Hanmer, what a great way to spend a couple of hours.

The Wai ariki Animal Farm is a short drive from Hanmer Thermal Pools so why not take the time after having a relaxing morning.

The fee was $35 for 2 adults and children. Animal feed is $2 a bag and well worth that price. It is a petting zoo but also a few animals like maybe a sheep or 2 roam free but they are quite calm. In some of the pens you have you timid animals and then you have the "piggy" ones who will push the timid ones out of the way to get to the food you are offering.

Second time here and it was a delight to watch the grand children have fun. They also have a trampoline for children and talk about an experience.

Last time around we didn't have this opportunity but this time we were able to actually go into the pen where wallabies were and actually hold green branches of foliage out to them while standing so close to them.

They have a café and and it is relaxing to sit and have a cup of coffee and which they children enjoy themselves.

My husband and I visited today on a bit of a grey day. An easy 15 minute walk from Hanmer but just far enough away from the busy tourist centre, it is an oasis of quiet and peace. For anyone who loves animals this is a gentle way to spend an afternoon with wallabies - who if you are still and patient, will eat willow from your hands - to donkeys, pigs, horses, deer, sheep, goats, llamas, alpacas, possum, chickens, ducks, geese, eels... and maybe others.... but I think I covered most. This is a treat as you walk around and pet or feed these friendly furry friends. So, whether a couple or you want somewhere to take the kids and grandkids, a nice change from the thrill seeking high energy options of Hanmer for a relaxed and fun outing. There is also a café and gallery and gift shop, so plenty for everyone!

Loved seeing all the animals around and the horse ride. However was dissapointed in how rude the owners were when i enquired about things eg. The horse cart taxi just got a really rude response, wasnt my fault the new owners hadn't at the time updated website and brochures etc.
