The museum was close to our hotel. We used that.
We liked it very much, lots of beautiful shells and information about the environment.
It was worth it for us

Absolute disgrace. The lady working there in the afternoon of sunday 4th Feb should be fired!
Last entry was 3pm. We were there at 2:40pm knocking but theyd closed everything. When we looked inside a woman could see us knock but was hiding behind a banner so she didnt have to let us in. Perhaps so she could go home early?
Extremely disappointing. If you go then go early, the woman there certainly will

Loved this place. Beautiful collection of shells, very well presented. Some interesting information provided. Very nice boutique attached with good things (high quality souvenirs), my wife bought some very pretty jewellery. Did it with children aged 5 and 7 and so did at a pace that maintained their interest but you could easily dwell here for a while. Well worth a visit.

The shell museum is located in an old building which has a lot of character. It is a private collection, started a long time ago by the parents of the person who created it.
During the visit we learn a lot about morphology, their defense system, their shape and patterns, their way of life, their mode of reproduction, etc. The shells are displayed by class, by shape, by color, etc., in display cases.
Tribal objects or other ornaments, masks and jewelry complete the rich collection amassed by Mr. Le Court de Billot. The legacy left is significant. Lots of shells from all over the world and lots of specimens from Mauritius.
A boutique section allows you to buy local and handmade products but don't expect to bring back shellfish, it's prohibited by law and the fines are expensive!
The staff are friendly, smiling, available and were able to provide us with a lot of additional information, particularly with regard to the law. It is a very pretty museum, also educational but which perhaps deserves a little refreshment in the first part, a little outdated in terms of museography. Very affordable price, free parking on site and toilets.

Their collection of seashells is really amazing. The info provided was incredible. It's definitely worth seeing. I had no idea how many different seashells existed and how valuable they were to the eco system

Absolutely gorgeous collection of seashells so beautifully presented. As a lifelong shell hunter this was my heaven. Such an interesting and informative display. We just loved it and would recommend anyone visiting the area to go.

If you have a short attention span this venue could be challenging, several thousand shells beautifully characterised and presented, along with descriptions of there use by various cultures.
Well worth a visit if you’re in the south of the island.

Such a fascinating way to spend an hour. There’s a beautiful selection of shells and really detailed but engaging information which ranges from the scientific to the cultural. Very good value for money and can make for a nice break from the heat as well!
