Really ENJOYED Hike to Diamond Point!
out de 2021
I REALLY enjoyed this hike. We came on Tuesday, October 12 in the morning - around 10 am. We went to Diamond Point and turned around. This is around 2 miles (roundtrip) with 288 feet elevation gain. It is a pretty flat hike. Once we got to Diamond Point (less than 30 minutes from the trailhead), we were able to enjoy the views of the New River Gorge Bridge in the distance and the river below.

If you are looking for an easy hike with awesome views in New River Gorge, this one is hard to beat.

Great hike! Several dogs on the trail. Breath taking views. Be careful around the edges. Several people repelling down the mountain and they come back up. You may be sitting there and someone pop up next to you. 😊

Stunning views!

This was my favorite hike at the gorge. Simply beautiful with numerous outcrops to view the gorge along the way. It is a loop trail and is an easy walk. Don't miss it!

Should be #1 on your Do Not Miss list
set de 2021
You know when people ask what is a must do or what "not to miss" in a National Park? Well, for New River Gorge National Park, Endless Wall Trail should be at the top of that list This incredible hike is mostly easy, with a few short, moderate rocky sections that are slippery when wet. This trail is not for the faint of heart, though, as there are sheer dropoffs at all the viewpoints (and no fences or barriers). The viewpoints are all accessible via short paths to the side of the trail, though, so it's not like you're walking along the edge during the main trail.

There are several unnamed viewpoints that will take your breath away before you even get to the crown jewel known as Diamond Point. Once you reach the sign for diamond point and walk to the cliffs, the view there blows away even those you saw before. It's stunning.

Arrive early (recommend no later than 8:30, 8am if it's peak tourist season) or you won't have anywhere to park. We parked at the Fern Creek parking lot, but there is a second parking lot at the other end of the trail (maybe half a mile down the road). Bonus - if you arrive early, you will have the trail mostly to yourself (and all the other people who read this and followed my advice lol)

The trail is actually one way, starting at the Fern Creek parking lot, ending at Nuttal (or vice versa), but we chose to turn around at Diamond Point and head back to Fern Creek. Our total hike out to Diamond Point and back was 2 miles.

The trail is not wheelchair accessible, and you should be in reasonably good health, particularly if it is hot outside. Bring lots of water no matter the weather. I personally would not bring small children to this trail, or even older children unless they are extremely respectful of the dangers of sheer dropoffs.

Wonderful Trail
jul de 2021
A moderate to easy trail with a bit of climb, but not a lot. Start in a pretty forest, and then progress to a neat rhododendron forest. Finally you are at a series of AWESOME clear views of the gorge and surrounding mountains. and then back downhill. This is a fun hike. Maybe 2 miles round trip.

Incredible views

Excellent! We are traveling with our 7 and 10 year olds, so we choose our hikes carefully. We asked for recommendations in the visitor center and this was the first one, and I'm so glad it was!

2 1/2 miles one way, with the main overlook (diamond point) about halfway through. The 2 trailheads are about half a mile apart, on a main road that doesn't have much space for walking, so take that into account, that it will end up being more than 2 1/2 miles total if doing the whole thing.

The person who made the recommendation also suggested going in one side, up to diamond point, and then out the same way to avoid the walk on the road, but we chose to do the whole thing. We entered at the Nuttall Trailhead, becuase we were told it was steep in the beginning and then evened out, while the Fern Creek entrance was moderately steep the whole way. It worked out well for us and nothing was too steep.

This was longer than our (very suburban) kids are used to but they loved it and agreed that the views were worth it. Along the way there are smaller lookout points to take in the view or stop for a snack. Or to see a copperhead, which we did - be careful! A bit muddy in places due to recent rain, but not awful. The lookout points can be VERY dangerous if not careful, so use your judgement if traveling with children.

Each trailhead had an outhouse style bathroom and small parking lot.

Great for Familiy Hike
jul de 2021
We chose this hike to do with family and dogs ages 10-73 because it was listed as easy/moderate. That rating is fairly accurate, since it is pretty short but some of the terrain can be tricky, including some higher boulders that were tough for the grandparents. We started to Fern Creek trailhead and took that to the Diamond overlook and turned around. The overlook had awesome views of the gorge and was well worth the trek. Not too many other folks on the trail at 9AM on a weekday.

All these people can’t be wrong - Great Hike
jul de 2021 • A sós
I hiked Endless on a Sunday morning around 8:30 with my Boston Terrier. It had rained considerably the day before and there was some puddles and muddy spots, butit wasn’t sloppy. At times there are plenty of roots to step over, but nothing about the trail is that challenging. Once you get up on the walk, their are numerous unsigned spur trails leading out to various overlooks. Pretty much, the better the spur trail looks, the better the view (and Diamond Point has signage). We started at the 2nd larger parking area, walked the whole trail, then walked ip the road back to the truck. A ranger acted like walking up the road would be suicidal, but we found it easy with mostly wide gravel shoulders. I think the light would overall be better later in the day, although you get views up AND down the river, so there may never be “perfect” light.

Easy hike to great overlook
jun de 2021 • Família
Hiked Endless Wall Trail to Diamond Point. Good hike to a great overlook and view of the New River. We did the out and back trail in about 1.5 hours. Arrived 9 am on a Monday morning and there were already several hikers on trail but we had mostly solitude. When we returned to trailhead, parking lot was packed.
