Such a peaceful setting! The horses were a bit contrary with each other but Debbie was great in keeping us all straight! Would definitely go back!

We completed the Cades Cove Loop via a rented bike around 11:30 and walked over to the riding stables. We should have gotten lunch first from the camp store or by bringing our own. The sign on the door said there was a 1-2 hour wait but it didn’t look like there were a ton of people waiting.

The cons for this place do not outweigh the pros but I wish we would have realized them. They do not give you any indication of timing so you can’t really leave, there is no place to sit, and there is no food or water right there. Wish we would have brought bag chairs, lunch, and an activity to do while we were hanging out with our 9 year olds. In the end it was about 2.5 hours wait from when we checked in to when we got to ride.

The pros for this place are pretty good. First you get to ride in the Smoky Mountain National Park! We had Debbie who was excellent with our group and fantastic with the horses. You can tell she absolutely loves her job and it makes the ride so enjoyable. The horses are beautiful and they make it easy to get on and off :) the man who works the stables was kind and funny as well.

I would recommend as long as you have 4-5 hours to spend on it - the ride itself is beautiful but it is a fairly typical ride that you could do anywhere :)

The trail ride is good, worth the wait. They keep groups to max 9 riders. The guide was knowledgeable, and entertaining, and the trail is mostly in the shade. Very serene ride.

We picked this place because it is inside the Smoky Mountain NP. However, even getting there at 9:45am, there was a wait to get tickets, which I expected. What I did not expect was another 2 1/2 hour wait until our actual ride. I understand and appreciate keeping groups small, but I would have appreciated a head’s up as far as timing. I think we could have left and did a short hike and returned in time for a ride.

The kids and I wanted to go horseback riding in the Smokies, so we went to Cades Cove Riding Stables. We had a great time! The staff is super nice & helpful! This was our first time riding and they made us feel comfortable on a horse. The trail is nice & takes about hour to ride (it felt like the right length). Half way through the ride, the staff member who was leading us got off her horse and took pictures of everyone on their horse using each person’s cellphone, so don’t worry about getting pictures. Be sure to bring some cash for a tip.

I don’t think they make reservations, so I’d recommend arriving when they open at 9. We got there around 10:30 and had to wait about an hour to ride since there were other groups in front of us (they take about 8-10 people at a time in a group & had 2 groups constantly going). There is a deck to get on and off the horses, so don’t worry about having to climb up. They have a good variety of horses and can accommodate most people (up to 300 lbs). Overall it was a fun experience!!! The kids already want to go riding again!

Well, I should get the huge negative out of the way. We arrived on a Wednesday in July (which IS the busy season) at about 11:30 am, thinking we’d hopefully get a ride by the time they closed at 4:30pm. They don’t allow reservations, so the rides are fine come, first served each day. There was a line to enter the trailer where you buy tickets (because they only allow one party inside at a time) and we ended up waiting about 90 minutes till we were the next party to go in. At that time, a woman came out and said they were completely booked for the day. She was extremely nice about it, but we were bummed. She encouraged us to come back at 9 am the next day to “guarantee” getting a ride.

So, the next morning, we got up early and made the 60 minute drive down from Gatlinburg, arriving at about a minute after 9. Even at this early hour, there was a line about twice as long as we waiting in the previous day. At this point, we were committed, so we hopped in line and hoped for the best. The line moved quicker than the day before, but it was still about a 2 hour wait. We ended up getting a ride, walking out of the trailer at about 11am.

The way the rides work is that they assign you a ride number, not a time. So you end up waiting outside the stables for your number to be called. Once the earlier rides return, they allow the horses to rest for 10 minutes and then call the next group numbers (they take 9 riders at a time, so they don’t always go in order.)

We waiting about another hour for our group to be called, but at least we had a ride this time.

As for the ride, it was absolutely amazing. I would absolutely recommend anyone on the dense for this to do it. Just make sure you arrive early enough in the day during the busy season.

The staff was so kind! My son was very nervous and they spent a lot of individual time getting him settled in and ready to go. Our guides were awesome and even took pictures to text us to preserve the memories. Great experience.

All I can say it first and last time on a horse. Don't get me wrong, it was great. But this old lady could hardly walk for 4 days after. LOL My hip hurt so bad. I think I was holding onj too tight, was so afraid I was going to fall off!! Good thing the horse knew what it was doing tho. We went up hills, down hills, thru streams. Some places were really rocky but the horse knew where to step. I think I would have enjoyed it more it I weren't concentrating so hard on hold ing. LOL. It was really nice tho. Quiet, serene setting, beautiful. Would highly suggest doing it even if you are a little on the "old" side!!! And I'm not a little person either!!

So we go to ride horses early in the morning, get there after an hour drive to find out of all things they require you wear a mask while in the stables, once you get out in the field you can remove the mask, then when you come back you have to put mask back on. Mmmmmm NO, I am so over this, masks are just a means of control.
