This small museum is packed with plenty of artefacts covering a number of aspects of local life. The lady on reception when we visited on a Friday afternoon was most helpful, and we spent a very pleasant 90 minutes there. Even better it was free to enter - donations at the visitor's discretion.

This is an interesting museum. Not terribly large but lots of local interest packed in. My wife was looking for some local particulars relating to her family history. The lady working there went and searched out some relevant information and provided it to us. The weather was rather dull and wet outside but we had a great couple of hours inside. many thanks

When we first entered the museum, the staff was very welcoming but the museum didn’t look like it would take long to walk through and theat there would be little of interest. Wrong!! What a neat museum with World War I artifacts and local histories of citizens in the war. A history of when the county was a thriving clothing and sewing area.
2 nd floor had archaeological exhibits and histories of the areas railroads and canals..And to top it all off...it’s free.

Visited here after travelling by train from Llanfair Caereinion to Welshpool by narrow gauge. Saw the museum by the canal, admission was free. Not a big building, but the quality of articles they have is very very impressive, covers a lot of time eras, has an interesting archaeological section as well.My own interest had a very good collection of grandfather clocks made locally , well worth a visit

We had a very pleasant hour at this museum, It was hot and sunny outside and bright and airy in, Full of interesting facts about the area things that I didn't even guess at. My 12 year old grandson found it interstering and when can we go again?

I'm not a museum person but I enjoyed an hour or so in this small museum. The setting is lovely on the Montgomery Canal, a bench in the sun watching swans and cygnets while waiting for the museum to open (10.30).
The receptionist was friendly and helpful; the printed guide was informative. The range of exhibits went from ancient geology and iron age settlements and artifacts, through agricultural and rural occupations to 'recent' toys (i.e. we had them 50 years ago - so a bit of nostalgia). Would certainly recommend popping in for an hour. A warning - there are no public toilets - but there is a notice outside advising of this.

We saw this signposted on the way into Welshpool. Lovely little canalside museum, free entry and charming staff. Full of local artefacts to do with farming, the Railway, canals etc. Lots of vintage memorabilia about music, film stars, toys, clothes etc. Very interesting part on Laura Ashley's rise to fame, along with lots of her vintage clothes on display which you could actually touch!! Great little museum, loved it.

We visited for one of the occasional evening openings. There was a special display on and this included items from the 60's and 70's alongside the usual displays. Lots of information on Laura Ashley, the designs and impact on the local area. With lots of outfits to see.
This is a free museum and in a lovely location, perfect for a walk along the canal after visiting the museum.

This gem of a museum is located at the end of Morrisons carpark. (if you shop for items at the supermarket you can park without charge). It is free, and deserves to be better known. Local historians over many years have contributed to the exhibition in various ways so there is a lot of information, with accompanying exhibits. The historical perspective is very comprehensive, with excellent archaeological findings in this rich heritage area, and you can read and digest as much as you feel able or have time. After 2.5 hours we felt an information overload, so depending how earnest you are, you might need a break, or as with us, the hope of returning another time. (Note the museum is closed over lunch).
There are changing exhibitions on the ground level, currently depicting the more recent history of the area. I noticed one person come in, looked around and leave. Maybe he did not think the museum was for him. But you need to go upstairs and absorb all that the local area can offer you. If you like history, geology and archeology you wil not be disappointed.
