Awesome hike!
set de 2021
This was a great hike! It was a workout being all uphill to get to the top, but not too bad. We LOVED the views at the top and it was lots of fun to stand in three states at once!

Standing in 3 States at Once - MUST DO for CGNHP
ago de 2021
While we started from the Kentucky side, it was one of the better hikes and experiences in CGNHP. Almost at the point where you cross the Cumberland Gap, there is a trail up the mountain slope to the south, that starts with a commemorative pyramid to Daniel Boone. You will continue through a thick woods before beginning a moderate climb that eventually winds to the top of the mountain. Here you will find a shelter with a map under that shows how the the three states of Virginia, Kentucky and Tennessee come together. Each state has a marker which tells about the state facts like size and state bird and flower. There is also a good view into Middlesboro; however, in the summer this is the only real view. Still it is cool to stand in 3 states at once on top of a mountain. For me, it was a highlight of CGNHP and something you should see if you visit the park. There is so much history and geography here so the Tri-State peak is something you must do.

Romantic spot or a sweet solo get away
jun de 2020 • Casais
If you enjoy beautiful trails and scenic mountains, quite solitude or romantic and budget friendly getaways I would definitely recommend this area. As newly weds, my husband and I needed to get away from the stess and chaos of covid. The area provided a perfectly tranquil respite. We stayed in the park and had enjoyed beautiful romantic walks. We could not believe how friendly and helpful the locals were and how absolutely delicious the local food was. We are on our way back this year and we plan to make this an annual trip.

Steep Hike
mai de 2021
This trail takes you to where the states of Virginia, Kentucky and Tennessee meet. It has a marker with a sign for each state. From what I've noticed, there are two options to get to the tri state peek. You can either park near the iron furnace in Cumberland Gap, TN or do what we did and park at the Thomas Walker parking area. Either way, it's 1.2 miles to the top and 1.2 miles back down. The trail has eroded in parts, but it's rocky and well-maintained. It's steep and takes a little longer climbing up than it is to climb back down. Bring fluids and good footwear.

A Must Do for Hikers
out de 2020
I enjoyed the ease of this trail. I tend to be clumsy and have some issues with balance and I was able to handle this one well. The best part is the Tri-State Peak itself. It was foggy for us, but still really cool to stand in 3 states at one time.

Easy Hike
set de 2020
This is a 1.2 (one way) moderate hike. Short areas are a little rocky, but not bad. There is a pavilion at the top showing the place the three states come together. The view is limited. There is a marker on the way to show you that you've been on part of the historical Cumberland Gap Trail. Worth doing.

Great trail
set de 2020 • Família
There are several different ways to reach tri-state peak. The trail is well maintained, and mostly gravel. Beginners should be able to handle this hike.

Fun hike
jul de 2020
We hiked up from the Daniel Boone parking lot. Trail was well maintained and mostly graveled. Signs were well placed and easy to follow the various trails that branched off. It was a really overcast morning so we were hiking up through mist. Unfortunately that meant the view from the top was very limited. Kids still had fun standing in 3 states at once. Hike up is a little steep in places but not bad my 3 year old managed it.

On the way back down the trail that mist decided it would rather be a full on downpour. Very glad we packed our rain gear.

Nice hike through Cumberland Gap
jul de 2019 • A sós
I started at the Iron Furnace lot in Cumberland Gap, TN. The TripAdvisor locator is fairly accurate--look for the Pinnacle Pub, which is right across the street from the lot. I arrived around noon on a Sunday, and there was plenty of parking available.

The hike to Tri-State Peak is a moderate 2.4-mile out-and-back with a good amount of elevation gain. There is a map posted at the trailhead to help you get oriented. The trail itself is well maintained and clearly signed.

It's very shaded, and there are a number of interesting sites along the way (the Iron Furnace, the site of a Civil War warehouse, Cumberland Gap). The tri-state point is pretty neat, but the lookout was obscured by trees and power lines.

There were very few other hikers, and it took me about 40 minutes to get to the top, and about another 25 to get back to the parking lot. A very nice short hike with some great history.
