abr de 2021 • Casais

A HIDDEN JEWEL -- WELL WORTH THE VISIT
nov de 2019
Tucked away, only a kilometre from the main north-south road to the Sea of Galilee, this musuem is modern, informative, and the staff is very personable and knowledgeable.

The history of a place
dez de 2018 • Casais
We visited this museum while touring the North of Israel. Since the group was large we had two guides, one to brief half of us on the geopolitical significance of the location where the kibbutz was built on 1937 while a second guided the other half of us in the mini-museum's exhibit.
This place has been a crossroads of peoples and armies over the millenia.
The pre-historic, Neolithic culture unearth accidentally in the fields and fish ponds as well as during organized digs is truly unique and internationally regarded.
Most interesting to me in the museum were small rounded stones with all sorts of lines carved in rows and sometimes seemingly random patterns. It is anyone's guess what these stones were for but they are ubiquitous and clearly meant for some purpose other than simple decoration.
As a special "treat" we also viewed a full length film produced as part of the kibbutz' 80th anniversary last year.
The two film-makers were present to discuss the film with us before and after the screening.
It deals with the first traumatic days of Israel's war of independence in May 1948 when Syrian forces bombarded the almost defenseless community relentlessly, until the leaders decided to evacuate children and the aged behind the front lines and then to abandon the site altogether when they ran out of ammunition and got no reinforcements. For three generstions this "stain" has been a painful secret not to be discussed. This film goes far in airing the facts behind this "shame" and helping the people who have lived with it to shake off the hunchback. Highly reccommended to try and include the film in a visit.
