They have so many kinds of grits and we love grits! We bought four types of grits and two types of cornmeal. Plus a drink mixer and some ice cream bars. This mill store is a great place to stop for some local products. They mill the grits and are obviously very knowledgeable about grits, cooking them, and delicious recipes for them. But, they also stock many other local food items as well as some local craft items. The ice cream bars are Nightingale brand and aren't the ice cream bars you know. Mine was made with two brown sugar cookies and filled with home made raspberry ice cream with white chocolate chunks. My husband had the darkest of chocolate cookies filled with the darkest of chocolate ice creams. Our only regret is that we didn't go back for more. We always try and support local businesses and this one stop allows you to support several. I did a good bit of Christmas shopping for our friends and family who enjoy food and drink.

A local place with a lot of unique local and regional items. Besides the grits, many other cooking a prepared items. If you're looking to take some "local flavor" home, this is your place. Staff was knowledgeable and friendly.

Stopped here on my way to a friend's house. Geechie grits are famous, but I had never been to their Market & Mill. They had LOTS of products to look at including homemade donuts and coffee. Although I love their grits, I opted to take a bag of their just made donuts home instead. Sadly, I found the donuts tasteless. Next time I'll stick to buying the grits that made them famous.
It was a fun stop and DeeDee, behind the counter, was a joy. It's a worth a stop just to meet her. I will go again. It was a fun stop along the way.

Our first visit to Geechie Boy Mill in August 2017 made us wonder why we waited so long. Amazing! As someone with celiac disease, I have to be super careful about how food products are made so I don't get sick. I emailed the owner before our visit, and he not only understood my questions about how the corn was milled and whether or not it was safe for someone who can't get near gluten from wheat, rye, barley, or oats, he assured me I safely could partake of their products. Hooray!

We visited twice during our time on the island. The first time the young lady who helped us confessed it was her first week on the job. We assured her she was doing great and she was. She explained the different kinds of corn they used and how each one tasted and how the cornmeal and grits would taste based on the kind of corn used. We were impressed with her knowlege and her sunny, upbeat attitude. The second time we visited, we chatted at length with the owner, who said the same things and more about the different types of corn. So interesting!

We came home with blue cornmeal, yellow cornmeal, and red cornmeal. They each tasted exactly as promised! We also brought back different varieties of grits and found they took about an hour or more of cooking to get really soft and velvety, and they taste so good. We also tried the island peas and found them to be wonderful. Better than blackeyed peas.

The shop carries a nice selection of other gourmet treats from around the area. Try the smoked salt, especially on your grits. Wow! We bought a giftset of the locally sourced salts and gave them to my foodie cousin. She loved them. There are soaps, tshirts, and even pottery made by "Mrs. Geechie Boy."

Do give the mill a try. You'll learn something new about corn and you'll get incredible, locally made and grown products to wow everyone when you get back home after your vacation.

Geechie Boy Mill has expanded their offerings in the grain departments- newest is Rice and you can find it all over Charleston SC as well as when the market opens in the Springtime. They have a 1940's mill on site in the market
Also you can see a 1876 mill and grain and mill separator in the new restaurant on 120 King street in downtown Charleston, SC called MILLERS ALL DAY!

Look for the GIANT Adirondack chair next to the GEECHIE BOY building - you can't miss it right along the road.
We made a deviation in our road trip from Hilton Head to Charleston just so we could purchase GEECHIE BOY grits as we got hooked on the best dang grits we had eaten during a local trip 6 years ago.
Cute road-side store with various GEECHIE products next to their process plant (no tour available). Only public restroom is a port-a-potty next to the building.
Older lady watching the store freely expressed her negative views on various subjects from local traffic to politics, so we didn't do much looking or trying of their other products, we just quickly grabbed our bags of grits and hit the road.
