A family run course and lodge that makes you feel like one of their own. Bob and Brenda took great care of us. Course looks short but is very challenging.

We had not heard of this public golf course but after reading about it on line, we thought we would give it a try. What a find! It’s family owned, very nicely maintained and the tree lined fairways are amazing. The front nine is relatively flat but can still be challenging and the back nine is beautiful with rolling hills and a unique layout. Tees, fairways and greens were in good shape. We would definitely play there again.

First time here. A friend recommend it. The golf club is privately owned and the owners are really nice and friendly. The course is beautiful and challenging but it also has "friendly tees" for the not so experienced golfers. The front nine is fairly flat and the back has some hills but some very beautiful views. Lots of trees and greens are in nice condition. There are distinct fairways and the rough it not too rough. Some interesting holes especially on the back nine. I played with my wife, brother and his girlfriend and we all will be returning in the near future. After golfing we ate at the bar / pub located on the premises. It is very rustic and interesting. The food was very good and the bar prices are very reasonable. The building we ate in was built in mid to late 1800's. Big logs etc. Nice pro shop with a nice selection of items. It also has lodging which we did not utilize since we drove up from Pittsburgh and it was an easy drive home. Great value for the money. Thursdays have golf specials. We are seniors and paid $21 each for golf which included the cart.

A gem in the Allegany Mountains. A challenge for all levels; bring more than one sleeve of balls; risk/reward holes abound. It is a course that you enjoy playing over and over again, 36 a day if you wish. The front nine holes are mostly gently sloped while the back nine holes have more elevation variations - lots of fun.
Park your vehicle until it's time to leave - enjoy home style meals in a family friendly atmosphere. The restaurant and bar and some of the accommodations are in the restored barn from the farm of long ago, a place of interesting character.
We always bring snacks to enjoy outside while overlooking the golf course. Our group has been making the trip (8Hours) for more than ten years and we always look forward to our time away where, like on CHEERS, everybody knows your name.

The land that the course is on is very pretty. The golf course, not so much! The greens are void of much grass, most tee boxes are not level, and the rough is unforgiving because of the fluffy grass. Some holes actually had some nice potential IF they were maintained better. I drove 50 miles to play this course because of the ratings given by others. I suspect that the reviews may not be all that valid.

I learned about the Hells Hollow Adventure Trail and golf cart ride in the Mercer County Tourism Bureau savings booklet. If you have one of these booklets you can save $5 off a golf cart rental for the Adventure ride.
We set out from Warren, Ohio, up Rt. 11 to I-80, to Pa. 376 and Rt. 318, then to Bestwick Road. I'll tell you if you drive in this way to use extreme caution because to turn onto Bestwick Road you have to do it on a dangerous curve in the road. Visibility is not good. Don't pay any attention to the impatient idiots behind you.
It's a nice drive in through farm lands. It's hard to believe a golf course is out there if you've never been before. But it is!
There's another way to drive in to Spring Valley golf course through Hermitage and I highly recommend that. That's how we went home.
The club house handles the golf cart rentals for the Adventure Ride. I was apprehensive because we weren't wearing "golf course attire", but it's all good.
Spring Valley golf's club house is located in an old barn. The history, I was told, goes back to the 1880s when the property was a dairy farm. The bar is where the milking parlor was! And behind that is the old bull pen.
It costs $30 to rent a golf cart for the Adventure ride through Hell's Hollow. I mentioned before there is a discount coupon available through the Mercer tourism bureau.
I kept thinking the trails were meant for off-roading vehicles like ATVs. But Spring Valley altered some golf carts to handle the rugged terrain. I was impressed that ours handled the trails as well as it did.
The golf carts are two-seaters. I was concerned that me and my daughter and her best friend ( both girls are 12) wouldn't be able to go. But because the girls are thin, we all fit on the golf cart.
I don't write this review with the intention to bad-mouth Spring Valley or discourage anyone from participating. I'm writing it from a place of honesty. It's my opinion that this ride is not meant for anyone who isn't in good health. If you or a family member or friend is frail, pregnant or has high anxiety, they probably shouldn't go. The management doesn't caution or prevent anyone from participating, but I'm here to tell you I wouldn't take my 90 year old grandmother on this trail. There's lots of bumps and steep hills. What I thought was going to be a leisurely drive through the woods was a "hang on for your life!" because there's lot of sharp turns, steep hills, crossing rocky creek beds and mud too.
In all fairness, I've attached photos of some of the scenic highlights.
The ride is meant to last 1 1/2 hours. We arrived just before 3 PM and started out around 3:10 PM. I was nervous we'd be rolling back in before 5 PM, closing time. Instead we made it back in one hour. But we also didn't stop the cart long or park it and go exploring. You are encouraged to do that at certain points of interest. Apparently there's a waterfall out there and we missed it.
I woke up the next morning and laughed thinking about our adventure. Honestly, it could be renamed "A Ride Through Hell".
If you love off-roading and a backwoods adventure I say GO.

Beautiful as it sounds. I have golfed many, many places in my life, but none were more beautiful or challenging than Spring Valley golf course/lodge in Mercer, PA. This course is nestled in the foothills of western Pennsylvania and built perfectly to contour with the rolling and lush topographics that the area provides. After 18 fun and challenging holes of golf, you can dine and enjoy your favorite spirits in their beautifully designed bar/restaurant. The clubhouse was built from a circa 1870s barn and has a rustic charm that I have never seen equaled. Their nature trail, in which guests ride on their own cart through the rustic wooded countryside is a great diversion for golfer and non-golfer alike.
Spring valley golf is a family owned and run business and is a must visit location for anyone looking for a moderately priced, top-quality golf/outdoor experience !

We really enjoyed golfing here! The course is interesting as there aren’t cart paths but the course itself was great! It had rained that morning and the course was still a pleasure to play! That says a lot. There were some spots that were really muddy but they could be avoided. Definitely returning and playing this course again!!

Spring Valley is a unique and challenging golf course. Nestled among the rolling hills of Western PA, it's a beautiful and rustic of a course as you'll ever golf. Family run and very friendly, courteous staff. No matter how far away you are, this is a course you must golf at least once in your life. You'll be glad you did and will probably want to come back and do it again
