Stumbled on great little local history museum
ago de 2021
We found this place after a visit to Alnick castle and found it very charming.

It is fairly small but will still take up round 1-2 hours of your time and is packed full of local history. When we went they had an interactive viking display which my 6 year old loved.

The downstairs had a more local theme, showing history from the coal miners which had a little miners tunnel which again my son loved crawling through.

Obviously Alnick with the Harry Potter connection will gain most of the tourist attraction but for those interested in local and general history this place is definitely worth a visit.

Hidden gem in Alnwick, perfect for a rainy day
out de 2021 • Casais
Superb museum given it is independent and run by enthusiastic volunteers. Great permanent exhibition on the history of Alnwick complete with a fun trail for children to find things. Also a changing exhibition on the top floor. It's a hidden gem and ideal for a rainy day. We spent an hour there happily.

Interesting and informative local history museum. Focuses on the ordinary life of the people of Alnwick and the surrounding area through the ages.

I got a great sense of fascinating local history. The info was clear and concise and exhibits were really well thought through. We were all adults, but kids there also having fun. Staff are delightful and clearly enthusiastic about the museum and local history. The building itself is fascinating. Great books and cards in gift shop, too. Loved it.

This place is a little gem and ideal to while away a couple of hours when the weather turns. The staff are very welcoming, it is competitively priced for the size and all in all very much worth a visit when in the area.

Perfect for young children
ago de 2021 • Família
Visited here for the second time, this time the upper floor was a Viking exhibit.

The museum is only small and this is reflected in the cheap ticket prices. It can easily be done in an hour or two but is perfect for combining with a trio to Alnwick town and Barter books on a rainy day with the kids.

There’s lots of hands on stuff for the kids to do and play with in each area and the kids really appreciate the chance to touch everything and have a good play.

Charming, educational, fun

We visit every year. The staff are welcoming and helpful. The kids love doing the mouse hunt - this year with a Viking twist. The Viking exhibit was particularly fun - our little one 'cooked' us food over the 'fire' as we sat around it on our comfy logs! They go through the coal tunnel every time; even the teenager couldn't resist. The museum is small but charming; a little gem from a gentler time. A must on a rainy day in Alnwick.

We visited on Saturday 7th August. We were greeted by a very nice friendly lady at reception, she told us what there was to see. The first floor was Vikings and Hilary was the host, she was very knowledgeable and helpful. A the displays were great. Well worth a visit. The shop was fantastic too.
