We rented the Ravenwood Retreat and were very, very badly happy with our decision to stay there! Beautiful views and trails right out the back door... very clean and well stocked house. Warm and inviting, we felt right at home! We will be back, or may take a look at your other properties. Thank you so much!

Over the years I have stayed at four different lodging locations within the sanctuary. The latest, the Toadstool Suite, was in keeping with every other lodging venue in that it was quiet, super clean, incredibly comfortable for sleeping and lounging, and extraordinary hiking through quiet woods was close at hand. The general lack of electronic reception in that area is a blessing as you can focus on simply being in that place and being in yourself. Definitely and consistently the most relaxing place to regenerate that I have ever encountered or could expect to. The staff are incredibly warm, confident, and helpful.

Went to hike today with the dogs and found out only a few trails allow dogs. Explored the sunflower trail and will have to come back in a few days/weeks for the explosion of flowers which are about to bloom. Will also need to come back without the dogs to explore others. Still lots of beauty!

My partner and I and another time with my girl friend makes five trips this year to different cabins. Love the Zen cabin. Will be back. All the others are just fine too. Well-appointed with enough kitchen equipment and always the beautiful settings.

My wife and I stayed here to get away for the weekend and loved it. It's super relaxing, quite and just a joy to stay in. We needed a small repair on the kitchen sink sprayer and the cleaning staff and maintenance man resolved the problem quickly. We went to the JR general store and got plenty of food items and then went across the street to the bakery and got our fill. If I had to describe my stay in one word it would be peaceful. We will definitely be staying again.

I'm 61 and went there as a kid and loved it the trails the caves. I got to take my kids there before they closed 7 Caves. Got some polished stones before taking them to bear cave where there was a sign with a story about a couple boys were playing marbles but a bear chased them out of cave. As the boys were ahead of me I spread the stones around and while leaving the cave I said I wonder if we can find some bear tracks so the boys could find the stones which I said I'll bet those are some of the boys marbles. They loved there time there. As a kid you watched for the signs instead of saying are we there yet as they had like three signs saying 7 Caves Ahead with a little Indian Boy. The river and trails I will always remember and I'm glad it was preserved.

Wow! This was beautiful! Well marked trail and the scenery was gorgeous. Highly recommend. It was not strenuous but interesting and some nice climbs.

I found out about the Highlands Nature Sanctuary when kayaking on the Rocky Fork Creek, which you can only do in the spring before they dam the creek to allow for recreation in the nearby Rocky Fork Lake. The Sanctuary has magnficent hiking trails which are free to traverse. They also have 8 or so cabins. We stayed in the Earthstar and Toadstool together to accommodate our three-friends group. It is a very nice place. It is evident that the property is well loved and the staff caring for it takes great pride in it by their meticulous attention to every detail. A great kitchen and very relaxing space in the Earthstar. It is steps away from two separate trail head, about 4 miles of hiking between them. It's a short drive down the road to other great trail heads. We absolutely loved it and look forward to returning!

The view and centrally located to great hiking. I stayed a week in june at the zen river cabin. Although the view and location of this cabin was amazing, the interior was furnished poorly with a full size bed rather than a queen. Although clearly labeled on the website about interior insects allowed, Roaches were everywhere, all over the kitchen anytime of the day and even in the bedroom. I would not stay in this cabin again.

Our family of 4 (2 daughters, now 12 & 16) have been coming to Highland Nature Sanctuary and renting one of their cabins every fall since 2008. 11 years. I have pictures where I can see both how my daughters have grown and how fields have grown up with succession. We are in love with this place. It's like a part of our family. This year, we stayed in Leatherwood (our third time, I think). Other years at Ravenswood and Chanterelle. We've enjoyed each one in it's own way. Though we know many of the trails by heart, they're still fresh and new to us each fall. Our family also goes to Red River Gorge each year, which we also love. But this place is just very unique and special.
(Note to AoA/HNS staff: super tiny suggestion--mandate *unscented* laundry detergent for all the linens in all cabins. You never know who has sensitivities to those detergent perfumes, or just finds them nauseating.)
