Great little time capsule

Authentic cottage, well maintained with fabulous collections on show. Nice place to visit and then have lunch or a coffee in one of the many cafes to choose from in the village of Buderim.

The House that John built
jul de 2017 • Casais
Pioneer Cottage is heritage listed and even though it's called a cottage, it is actually a fairly substantial home. The Burnett family — John, his wife and eight children plus an elderly father — all lived in this beautifully preserved home from 1882. Many of the historical items of interest at Pioneer Cottage have been donated by the local Buderim community with certain furniture items having been made by John Burnett himself. There's a little something for everyone to enjoy and admire. History of Buderim
dez de 2017 • A sós
This quaint old house on Buderim manned by a lovely group of community minded volunteers (Buderim Historical Society) is well worth a visit if you are in Buderim. For you Sunshine Coast locals like me who had never been, get there immediately! I love Buderim and this somewhat hidden gem is a real beauty.

The Cottage forms a key part of Buderim’s history being home to the first Buderim Immigrant family who moved to Queensland from Somerset, England in 1866. The original owners were a Mr & Mrs JK Burnett (JK was the son of John Burnett who arrived from Somerset, and the main street in Buderim is now named after the family). There are plenty of historical items on display including antique furniture, heirlooms (grammaphones, clocks, tea sets etc) and clothing and lots of information to read about the family. It is truly fascinating. My favourite part was the attic.

There is lots to see and learn so I would recommend allowing at least an hour to look around. I only pencilled in half an hour as I was meeting a friend in town and I had to drag myself away because I was only just beginning to get myself immersed into the history of the cottage etc when my time was up. Built in the 19th century (circa 1880) I will definitely be back to explore the history of Buderim further.

Opening hours are Monday to Saturday 11am-3pm; Adults $5; Kids $1 (great value)

Step Back In Time
jul de 2017 • Família
Having explored the Pioneer Cottage Buderim I found it to be a wonderful experience Especially for children as well as adults. Just amazing to see how different times were and how much work went into every day living. A much more family oriented life style where all members of the family contributed and did chores to live. Very simplistic life style. Cutting wood for the fire place so you could stay warm and cook meals which were often stews and soup, boiling water for bathing, no modern conveniences, using the pedal sewing machine to repair and make clothes. A time when family life was hard work but rewarding, so different to today's lifestyle, a must to see!

history comes alive

The cottage is very wel kept and gives that wow factor when you enter. You can easily imagine the lives of the people who called it home. The volunteers are very friendly and seem passionate about their role as guardians of the cottage and it's displays.

Really interesting and enjoyable

Lovely little cottage gem with a great information sheet developed by volunteers that is historically accurate and very interesting. Worth the few dollars to have an enjoyable step back in time. Will take 30 min and may be a little interesting gem in your day.

authentic and well laid out displays

volunteers man the facility and do a good job.they are helpful and obliging
displays are set out well with informative captions
be aware that this is a rather small facility so that visitors cannot expect it to be equivalent to a large museum or such
