History restored, worth a visit.

Couple in our 40’s and glad we visited. The local community have spent a lot of time and effort restoring the Woolscour.

Great to see we haven’t lost the history and machinery.

Due to COVID restrictions no toilets at this location.

Amazing 1906 machinery from the age of steam. You can see the machinery working. Cogs, belts flywheels, all in action. A must sée

Priceless industrial engine in working order
jun de 2021 • Casais
Blackall Wool Scour is a valuable historical site containing one of only two remaining industrial steam driven engines of its type in the world.

Great foresight was shown by locals to ensure that this rare wool scour is preserved.

The volunteer guide gave us a great look at how raw wool was processed for export in the old days. On some days, the engine is operated under steam power.

One comment to the site management: you do need to resolve the issue with your toilets. The current arrangement is not good enough, given that most visitors are seniors. Quite inexcusable, actually!

Disappointed
jun de 2021 • Casais
Despite all advertising of opening & tour times, we were told it was closed when we arrived. When I mentioned the advertised times I was told there was a blackboard at the gate with revised times. I suggested this wasn’t very useful for tourists who have driven hundreds of kms to get here.

Outback Trip
mai de 2021 • Amigos
Yes this was a great attraction to be guided through and to listen to all the information that our guide had to offer but when told we could not use the toilet facilities as they then had to clean them after us we were astounded and very quickly drove to Blackall and used the facilities at Ram Park Historical Center and Museum. Travelled over 3000 kms on our Outback Trip and visited nearly every tourist attraction each Town had to offer but never came across the toilet cleaning.

Don't visit if you need to use the amenities
jun de 2021
We arrived here after a two hour drive only to be told that we couldn't use the toilets as they were for staff only, the lady told us that if she let tourists use them they would have to be cleaned every hour. What tourist attraction these days doesn't have facilities. We are travelling around Qld trying to support the small towns, this did not give us any incentive to stay in Blackall. The lady at the tourist information centre was very helpful and rather gobsmacked when I told her what happened.

Must see if visiting Blackall

This attraction is a credit to the Blackall community and all the people who have restored and work at this amazing place. Well worth a tour of if you are in Blackall. Includes knowledgeable and interesting commentary from a local man who gets some of the old machines working and explains the process. So thankful that this piece of Australian history is still intact.

It was good to see that the wool Scourer has been restored to before decommissioning days and you can actually see how it all worked. Our guide wad very knowledgeable and gave a comprehensive account of the scouring process.. A small party certainly made it a better experience.
