Happy campers

Holy moly what a camp! I have never been to a place like this in all my life. I travelled 16 hours from the coast and I was not disappointed with what I found. The facilities were above anything I would have found back on the coast. The service was excellent, the staff even more so. The national park is only a short drive from the camp and it is easy to lose a couple of days there canoeing and hiking. We have had the time of our lives and memory's we won't forget easily.

Interesting visit

The 800 metre walk is well worth doing and something a little different.

It appears that the site is currently being upgraded with new information and it will be excellent once it is finished.

Even though there are a few steps it is not difficult to walk even in the neat of the day.

Don't waste your time

Unless you happen to be travelling between Adels Grove and Camooweal, it is a pretty long detour on very bad roads to visit Riversleigh. It is not worth it. There is a hut with some information on Gondwanaland, how fossils are formed, and the prehistoric fauna of Australia. Nothing that you can’t find easily on the internet. There is a walk with three places where there are a few white smudges in the rocks. These are the fossils. Pathetic. How this place got World Heritage listing is a mystery. Maybe money changed hands.

There is a decent toilet and the walk is nice enough with good views at the top.

Worth a look if passing by

As it was on our route out of Lawn Hill Gorge we stopped and walked the circuit. Good track, interesting information, good views and a few fossils visible.

Not a Highlight but worth the stop if in the area

Unless you re interested in fossils I doubt it would be worth going out of your way to visit this place. It was on our way to Lawn Hill Gorge so we decided we may as well stop as it is World Heritage Listed. There are 4 fossils, The Big Bird being the largest and most interesting. The Information Cave at the start of the track is well done and worth a look even if you choose not to do the walk. However, its not a difficult walk except it gets quite hot. The views from the top of the hill are worth it and the entire loop doesnt take long.

So glad we stopped

I wasn't keen on stopping here as we had a big day of driving ahead of us but so glad we stopped. The self guided walk was easy and being able to stop and see fossils myself without needing them pointed out by a guide was awesome. It really makes you think about the history of our land and how much it has changed. Standing in the middle of a dry rocky area knowing it used to be an inland ocean is mind blowing

Wonderful place to learn about the past. Not all fossils are dinosaurs.

We took a half day tour from Adels grove to Site D at Riversleigh and loved it. The depth of information at this site is amazing, it's no wonder it's world heritage listed. From stromatolites and a 550 million year old ocean coast line to 2m high ducks and "recent fossils" of crocs, bats, snakes and everything in between. The site is a must if you are heading this way. Basic amenities but clean and private, what more do you need. I would recommend taking a tour with an experienced guide so you can fully understand the site.

Amazing Heritage in the Ground

This visit was a bucket list item for me and I am so happy to have done it. Most visitors will know the background to the fossil find so you start an 800 m walk in a man made rock enclosed information centre. Very informative, then follow a well marked trail around several sites were you can see fossils, clearly marked on interpretive signage. There is a site where the scientists are removing rock and fossil for lab work. The most impressive for me was the leg bone and gizzard stones from an ancient “Big Bird”
The walk has steps but is not difficult, there is a toilet on Site😁😉
Now I need to visit the similar site at Naracoorte in SA

This was a great excursion. We were lucky to have a professor of palaeontology on site to explain; very interesting. Good to have the option of guided tour of self exploration as long as you stay on the track. Not too strenuous, but steps & uneven ground.
