This museum has a lot of written material and at times lacked flow for me... I looked up and read about a shipwreck that occurred on the Great Ocean Road in Victoria. The information is interesting, if you haven't come across it before.
For me, my favourite part was flicking through old newspapers ... loved seeing the advertisements. Advertising Lux, Players, Milo, Paul Duval ( what happened to him?), Rosella, Swift ( a savoury spread), Cadbury's Red Label... There was also an excellent article on Rhoda Van der Clute who had met her husband ( an American GI) in Melbourne and moved to the US and made a name for herself in the printing industry.
And of course, the wanted poster for George Daniels. He was wanted for the murder of Arthur Cogzell. The interesting part of the poster for me was the detail for the descriptors... they had his weight, details of how he liked to keep his hair... and even the description of what he was wearing when he was last seen- A grey crimean shirt, brown beaver trousers, elastic-side boots, (size 6), no hat-- Seriously ??? Not just wearing grey shirt, brown trousers and boots?? Clearly we do not pay enough attention to detail these days. :)
If you are in the area, the museum is opposite their Visitor Information Centre and it's worth a few minutes of your time to wander through. Entry is $3 a head... you will need cash.

I love country town museums, and Agnes Water (no "S" - learnt that today!) didnt disappoint. Lovely lady on the front desk (Olivia) and so much to see. Was particularly taken with the tragic stories about the lighthouse. Well worth the outrageous entrance price of $3.00 (being heavy on the irony here...a bargain!!). Highly recommend

Excellent information and artefacts available to read and look at. Great for the family, kids enjoyed it almost as much as we did! Good to refresh your knowledge about Cook’s landing but there’s so much more to discover once you step inside. Happy to make an extra donation for the kids entry too :)

The Museum is filled with good information about local history and a background of Cook's visit to what is now known as The Town of 1770. It's worth the $3 donation.
Do yourself a favour, include and enjoy the free walk along the Headland Discovery Walk to the end where you can overlook the beach of Anges Water around to Workman's Beach.

I wish I could review the museum, but it was closed for the whole period of our stay. I love history and visiting local museums but was extremely disheartening I couldn’t. To make it more disappointing was this was the only rainy day activity the town has to offer.

Exhibits in museum were very interesting and explained the history of the region. The volunteers working at the museum were very friendly and welcoming plus told us their personal experiences and history from growing up in Agnes Water/1770 including tales from the re-enactment in 1970.

Firstly the lady at the front desk was very friendly and welcoming and kicked things off really well.
The museum is very interesting and is jam packed with information. It is more of a reading museum than a looking one and I wouldnt recommend taking young children ( we had our 7month old), as you need to take your time to read.
