If you want to see "Beautiful Views" of the falls, you must visit this place. My family and I loved it. Definitely worth the 30 minute drive from Asheville, NC.

A pretty scenic drive in the fall. There was a helpful ranger in the visitors center. We found a quiet and pleasant picnic area. The Looking Glass Falls was very popular but worth a hike to see. Lots of mountain driving and scenic views.

The views were awsome. We spent three days viewing the fall colors and hiking. We had a great time. We based out of Brevard witch was a good joice.

We had a great time hiking in Pisgah National Forest - and were surprised at how few fellow hikers were around! We drove there via the Blue Ridge Parkway and it was stunning. Our first stop was for views of Looking Glass Rock and if we ever return, we'll definitely do the hike out there. Next up was our hike to Skinny Dip Falls - easy to follow, which was nice because no one else was on it. Our second hike was Graveyard Field - absolutely lovely, but once again pretty empty until our hike back (Second Falls was more impressive than Upper Falls). The path was definitely less clear! Last stop was Looking Glass Falls and - hello - we found everyone. But it was a fun stop anyway. Definitely plenty more hikes & waterfalls to return to!

Pisgah Forest is nice but don't hike alone. It is not safe in the Transylvania county and Brevard area. I was followed by pepole up here. Someone was murdered at the restaurant on the top of the mountainl. Also, be careful in the traffic. Stalkilng is a problem in the county. Don't head to the Cedar Mountain area.
Beautiful views. The Davidson River campground is very nice and secure.

Fun and accessible for families with young kids. We enjoyed sliding rock, looking glass falls, hiking, a picnic, and hammock naps.

Excellent hiking, good campground. The trails are what you would expect in the region--well maintained, clearly blazed/marked. We stayed in the campground: sites are small but well-wooded for privacy, bathrooms are acceptable but not great. Bear boxes are provided at each campsite, which is very convenient and improves safety.

Anytime you can spend some time in the forests, it is a great day. Pisgah has it all with waterfalls, trails, scenic drives, and so much more. I always enjoy a visit to Pisgah National Forest.

Great hike to the top of Mt Pisgah in June 2022. We are 71 and in good shape. We started at the Pisgah Inn and round trip took about 4.5 hours with stops for lunch, snacks and photos. There are some steep areas with stone steps but overall I would rate it as moderately difficult partly due to the heat. Bring lots of water and snacks. Very interesting trees, flowers, shrubs and thickets. Amazing view at the top.

About 6 miles hike and took us about 3 and half hours up to Looking Glass Rock.
I would consider this a moderate hike. Highly recommended.

The weather in late March in western NC is usually in the low to mid 60’s during the day and mid 40’s at night. But kind of like Georgia it has snowed on rare occasions when a cold front drops down from the north. If I plan a trip I monitor the weather report weeks ahead to make sure u come prepared for a cold snap.

Some trails on Grandfather Mtn. Have ladders that Dodd couldn’t do unless they are small enough to carry. Otherwise a 6’ leash is needed. The bears are especially active this year.

Like all other National Parks dogs are welcome ,but you also have the leash laws to were the dogs are on Leash or tie outs at all times. No dogs are allowed on the trails !

Hi! We are coming up in late October from flat, boring Florida. I'm looking for an easy-ish trail that offers great views. Any suggestions?

We did Catawba falls with our dog and there were a lot of people bringing kids or carrying them. It is a very doable walk in the mountains with a beautiful waterfall at the top. Looking glass falls is right in pisgah and is on the road with no hiking required but is also pretty.

Is the picnic area at Coontree off 276 still open? I'm not seeing it on some of the maps. I love the magical swimming hole area in the far side....

There is an inn near the top of Mount Pisgah called "The Pisgah Inn." I am not sure about rates or availability but should be affordable since I think its the national park service that runs it. All rooms face the mountain tops (you look out above the range) and the views are incredible!

I would like to camp in a pop-up camper last week in March for a week. Looks like National Forest do not open to camping until April first. Where would you suggest camping? What kind of weather would I be looking at? Are there any campgrounds with electricity? From WI never been to this area. Thank You!

Hello Debra N,
I stayed several times at Alpine Village in Burnsville, NC. I have never camped in The Pisgah National Forrest. There is a campground as you enter The Pisgah Forrest. It is clean and not crowded. The weather in April is still cool. The summer months are the best times to visit.

Can you get cellular phone service with any carrier in the forest? My recent trip had no signals via T-Mobile.

Your best bet would be Verizon in The Pisgah National Forrest.
