The most northern end of the trail has a beautiful covered bridge with a rail road tressel above it. Nice trees and birds on either side of trail. It's clean with some nice hills to get your heart rate up and a few port-a-potties if needed. Well paved with some emergency phones along the route too.

The first section from the soccer complex south to Eastwood road is worn and tired. It is a shame as it is so well used. Fence is broken everywhere and lots of unsafe drop off. Parks and rec have really forgotten about it.

I was really excited moving to North Carolina because being from Connecticut you can't always hike year-round due to the weather. I do live in the eastern part of the state so there isn't a lot of hiking like I'm used to which is unfortunate but this Trail is very close to where I live and very convenient. It's really more of a walk than a hike but it has great scenery and fresh air. It's definitely a go-to spot for me.

This is a well-maintained woodland trail for hiking, biking, and running; it features a broad paved path passing through rolling hills, several side trails, and restroom facilities. The scenery includes fine views of the river.

I came looking for a stop off I-95 to stretch the legs with a bike ride. I have a road bike and that is my perspective. First, I saw signs designating the trail as four miles. My Garmin GPS measured it from Clark Park to Jordan Soccer Complex as four miles. If it is five miles the fifth mile is perfectly hidden. Second, I expected a rail trail (flat) with expansive river views. It is neither. At Clark Park, there is an extensive boardwalk through the woods and another halfway through. The trail, except for a brief road section and another brief section next to train tracks, is very windy and surprisngly hilly. In fact, I would suggest that kids under 10 may not be able to ride their bikes up some sections as well as kids over 75. Third, there really aren't expansive views of the Cape Fear River. It is simply a trail in the woods, a very beautiful trail in the woods, with only brief glimpes of the river available. Fourth, the trail goes under an active railroad trestle via a boardwalk, covered breifly to protect users from debris from the overhead railroad. Don't miss this. This was a highlisght for me. Summary: Shorter and hillier than expected, probably a little too short for many road cyclists, but very beautiful.

The Cape Fear River trail is a paved 5 mile trail (10 if you make the return trip 😉). It has nice views and enjoyable rolling hills. Its not truly a “trail”, but it is a good time nontheless.

If you are looking for a peaceful stroll, this trail is great. I wish they had a bathroom on the halfway point.

Stunning trail typical of North Carolina beauty. Song birds, fragrant, paved, hills, and elk maintained, covered bridge, gurgling river falls. This place feeds my soul.

Took a great hike with my daughter and her good-sized dog on this trail. They have "dog bags" at the beginning, and encourage dog owners to clean up after their charges. The water stop on the trail also included a large bowl for dogs to partake. We thoroughly enjoyed our walk here.

Does it close at sundown or sooner?

Most state/city parks are open from dawn to dusk. That’s a general rule. There are no street lights along the trail, so I would imagine it would be pretty dark once the sun goes down.

Lots of dogs on the trail. Bags are available there. The dogs need to be on a leash.
How long is the trail?

Now that the trail has been extended on the Clark Park end, the one way distance is 5.5 miles. That makes a complete round trip 11 miles. However, the trail is marked at least every half so you can calculate the distance you want to travel if you need to start and end at the same point. One note, I recently returned to the trail to discover that there has been an extensive mountain biking trail added to the attraction. I'll try to get out and provide some further details and pictures on this new offering.
