We came on a Monday when the both the museum and lighthouse were closed, however, you could still walk the grounds. The have a trail with very nice signs that explained the battle from the Revolution that was found here, and some of the story of the lighthouse that came later.
The park is beautifully maintained, and the view of the Hudson are gorgeous. It was January and cold so we only spent a little over an hour, but it was a very nice park.

On a roundtrip vacation of the Hudson River Valley, my family visited the Stony Point Battlefield and Lighthouse located on the westside of the Hudson River, around 46 miles North of NYC and 14 miles South of West Point. We're glad we did. After parking in their lot with a view of the Hudson River, we walked up the hill to the state park's Museum. (Given the slope of the hill and the park in general, wheelchairs will have some challenges). I highly recommend visiting this state park when the Museum is open where the park managers have a relief map of the Battleground structures during Revolutionary War times and they recount the events that transpired here. The strategies of the British, General “Mad Anthony” Wayne and George Washington are intriguing and the threat that the British fortifications here posed to West Point (and the future of our country) was something I wasn't aware of. The small museum also contains various exhibits, some muskets, swords and spontoon, uniforms and other interesting displays. Outside the Museum, and along the sloping pathways, are several elevated observation points of the Hudson River, historical markers, a picnic pavilion and the oldest lighthouse on the Hudson River. Walking around the park with its panoramic views of the Hudson and the boat marinas south of the park and on the eastern shore offered a number of picture taking opportunities. As this is a small and contained state park, it doesn't take long to walk from one end of the park to the other side. I think this state park is a real jewel for history buffs.

Admission to the Stony Point Battlefield and Lighthouse was free for us. Per their park rules, no pets are allowed.

Shortly after visiting the Stony Point Battlefield, we visited the West Point Military Academy and learned about its history. Our Stony Point visit was a good segue into our West Point visit.

A nice piece of land on the Hudson River. On special occasions, they have volunteers in Revolutionary War period costumes providing interesting details on that period. A lot of mosquitoes in the summer, though.

The stony point lighthouse battlefield. Was neat. Thats about it, we stayed for 25 minutes. If you have a wheelchair or the elderly handicapped with you then park at the top of the hill. Then you will need someone with muscle to push the wheelchair to the lighthouse. If not you must park at the bottom of the hill and walk all the way up. It was a day the museum was not open and I would have been dissapointed if I had to walk all that way to see what was at the end of the trail. So make sure you go on a day that the museum is open and their doing their living history exhibit. Also the bridge to get to the parking area is single lane high wall so be careful.

Made the trip up to see the light and got a bonus with the battlefield history. Fantastically kept park with many points of interest. Paths are in great shape, views are breathtaking, and it’s a great hike.

Great historic site. The grounds are well kept. There is a museum and you can walk up to the lighthouse. Great place for family to spend some time and learn about our history and involvement in revolutionary war.

I took my son here several times to show him where Gen. "Mad Anthony" Wayne led his attack against the British with only the bayonet. Lt. Col. Meigs of the CT 5th led a regiment on the left. Revolutionary War must see

The highway signage to get here—like most state historic parks in the region—is horrible, but it's worth your while to make a u-turn because there's no advance warning, and you inevitably drive past the park sign.

The little museum is well-curated, and the signs along the walking path, although in need of replacement, can still be read. When we were there in mid-September, there were still replica tents of the period that gave you a great sense of how the soldiers lived. The battle is the main reason for the park, but there's also an historic lighthouse. The views are wonderful, and there's a nice picnic area. We're walkers and hills don't daunt us, but if you think walking a block uphill is difficult, you might have some issues, since the parking area is at the base of the hill. After all, river forts are usually elevated to command the river.

I'm a big fan of "Mad" Anthony Wayne (the "mad" nickname, which he hated, is a misnomer; he was a deliberate, prepared general) was one of the war's five great rebel generals: Washington, Nathanael Greene, Wayne, Benedict Arnold (before he switched sides) and Daniel Morgan. Visiting Stony Point was a thrill for me, but even my significant other enjoyed it for the scenery.

We visited here on a Tuesday when the Museum is closed so we pretty much had the place to ourselves. Lots of information about the battle and the grounds are well maintained. Would like to visit when things are in full swing as it looks like they do a lot of interpretive activities.
