The place is nice and spread out but wayyyyyy tooooo expensive. No way a family could afford to do all the experience for maybe half a day

Breathtaking experience. Had me filled with emotions because of it's natural beauty. We are not very active people and found this waking trail and raft was perfect. It's really accessible for the whole family and affordable. The pictures don't do it justice. It's a must while visiting the area. Even better, stay at the ausable chasm campground which is walking distance and very beautiful and affordable as well.

We visited Ausable Chasm on Saturday around 10:30am. There were no crowds. We stayed at the campground and took a 5 minute walk over to the chasm. Your party will need to be with you when you pay for the tour. You also need closed toe shoes. They will give you a wristband that corresponds with the tour that you choose. Tours start around $50 adults and $40 for children. We added $5 to the trail and raft package, in order to do the river walk, which includes a guided tour with hanging bridges. It was a perfect day for hiking and exploring. You are in and out of the shade while on the trails. Had I known there are nice spots to have a picnic. There are many photo opportunities. The river walk was interesting and the hanging bridges were fun (as long as you are not nervous of height). We could watch the people doing the via ferrata from the river trail. The water was not high so the raft ride was slow and lazy. Perfect for our first time and for the 7 year old that was a little nervous. It takes about an hour to 1.5 hours to do the trail and river walk, depending how many times you stop and go to the lookouts for photos etc. The raft ride is about 15 to 20 minutes long. On this day we did not get wet. Once off the raft ride you can take the trails back or wait for the shuttle that brings you back to the Welcome center. The Welcome center is beautiful and a great spot to buy lunch or picnic, indoors or out.

I have been raving about this place ever since we went! We did the adventure trail and it was so much fun. It was creepy enough to get the heart pumping and the mind questioning your choices, but we were clipped in at all times so on the off chance of a slip or fall, it would have just been a higher peak of adrenaline. If you are afraid of heights, skip the adventure trail, this is not the way to try immersion therapy! But everyone else should definitely do this! We opted for the inner tube for the float and got pretty wet doing so, but it was still worth it. It was a bummer the float wasn't a bit longer. I took a long a backpack with snack and water and towels...this was not needed. The water was nice as it was a warm day, but we would have been fine without it and the bulk got caught on some cables at times and I had to carry it on my front in the tube...completely manageable, but it was an unnecessary add.

Ausable Chasm is worthy of the word "awesome." I've been here twice. We did the basic no-frills tour both times. It's $20 and you walk along the Inner Sanctum trail, all along the edge of the 1.5 mile chasm. It's amazing. I think a lot of people feel ripped off because the brochure only advertises the expensive tubing, rafting, and all-inclusive tours. Even at the ticket counter, they do not show the basic self-guided walking tour as an option - which is not right. A friend of mine just happened to know you could walk on your own.

The canyon is very picturesque. But so are others. We did the Rock tour (not the climbing, just the walking) - which lasted 15 minutes. You walk over 2 suspension bridges. Then walk 5 minutes closer to the river with a guide that tells you very little. She was nice when asked questions and much more informative. See the elephant rock from below. Walk back - that's it. Definitely not worth the price.
But it got worse. We did enjoy walking along the canyon after that - great views - and we were really looking forward to tubing in the Canyon. It was in the afternoon and we had chosen that time because the website said that is was not as busy in the afternoon and mornings and you should avoid midday. We quickly hit the line for rafting and tubing. Apart from the fact that is was a very disorganised line and people jumped it at will, we spend 2 hours 45 minutes TWO HOURS FOURTYFIVE MINUTES!!! waiting to get on the tube. One of the employees (he said he was the head of HR) joked about it being like Disney World. Nobody found that remotely funny. You are stuck there, really. You paid already. No seating available. At least they handed out free water (August!!) but apart from that there was litte info or recognition about our discomfort. You are only supposed to wear what can get wet and cannot fall into the river so we brought nothing. Completely destroyed the whole tubing experience (which was nice but very short). It would have been expensive but a different and nice experience if they had organised the rafting/tubing better. Just took forever to get new tubes and rafts and guides for the rafts were also scarce. 45 minutes wait would have been acceptable - but this was horrible. Do not recommend it. Better ways to have a great experience around there.

Me and my boyfriend decided to have a going away to college day, and celebrated at Ausable. We’ve been there before for the walk and raft, the line for the raft was probably about a hour for a 5 minute ride. This time we went for the ropes coarse and weren’t able to raft as the line was 3 times as long as last time. We paid 150$ to walk above the chasm on wire like ropes with our guide Trent. About halfway through the coarse, I, for a split second on dry, flat rock, took off one of my carabiners (you have 2) and while replacing it, took the other one off where there was a quarter of a second that both were off the line. Trent then very aggressively told me that I needed to get off and even though I am under 18, said I’d need to go completely alone, I asked him if I would get me and my boyfriends 150$ back, since we would both be getting off, he said no. When he called his coworker, he said to just let me finish as it’s inconvenient to get into a situation that’s safe enough to get off. His tone and facial expression for the rest of the time was threatening and would have ruined the entire experience if I didn’t find a way to ignore him. I completely understand the safety issues, however in that spot, I was completely safe, and if I were to have fallen off the relatively large flat, dry, platform I would’ve fallen not much farther than some playground equipment. I’m more upset that after one, subconscious mistake, he was going to waste our 150$ and ruin our last day together.

Went with a group of 6. After spending $300 and being told it was an hour wait we were still excited. Then we started walking. The wal was 30 minutes. We got to the middle of the line accidentally and some nice people told us they had already been waiting for 45 minutes. We stood for another 20 minutes in a line that didn’t move once. One of our group had a medical condition and needed water. Ironically the water hit was next to us but was locked. For safety reasons we decided to walk back. We asked for a refund and were told there was an absolute no refund policy. A diabetic was in line behind us and was also denied a refund as the general manager Caleb smugly pointed to his signage as backup. He argued with us that the hike was short and implied that we were out of shape. He also continued to point to the vending machines on the map for water (our money was in the locker because we were in line for tubing - duh). Overall, I think a little compassion and care from the manager Caleb could have gone a long way, instead we had an ego battle with no concern for health and safety of the customer.

Hi
Planning on going next week with my 14 yo. If you take the regular package (not adventure with rock climbing), is there still a suspended/rooe bridge to walk accross? We would love the bridge, but not really the rock climbing part.
Also, is there a place to leave your stuff that you don’t want to get wet and/or change in bathing suits before doing the tubing?

Hi,
We are going to Ausable chasm on monday. We are not going to take the rafting trip or the Adventure trail. Is there enough to see on the basic $20.00 entrance
Thanks

Hi. I plan to go in June with my kids... all experienced hikers. How long should our visit take? I think we will hike, do the float and the adventure trail. Plan to be there when the park opens. I am guessing 4-5 hours. Are there any discounts available?

Hi , I am going to Ausable chasm tomorrow with husband and my 7 year old son ...for 2 days what are the most to do things I can cover in these 2 days ? Do I have to book tubing online or will I get it from there . Thanks
Feita em 30 de agosto de 2019
Hello, no reservations needed, just walk into the visitor center and make your choice whether yoy would like to tube down the river or raft down, or simply hike through the Chasm. You could also decide to do the ropes course

The website says that the raft ride is suitable for individuals 30 lbs and greater. Does that mean that our baby would exclude us from taking the raft?
Feita em 13 de agosto de 2018
I would not take the baby on the raft. There is a safety reason for the 30 lbs minimum weight requirement. I would call the place to be absolutely certain.

Hi I’m going soon to the chasms .. any pointers? And how much does it cost?
Feita em 6 de agosto de 2018
Cost depends on what you want to do. The plain entry just let's you walk the gorge trail which ends with a short ride on the river and that's not too pricey. For the trips with ropes and stuff where you zig zag over the river between the cliffs the cost is considerably more. Do bring your own food and water. There is a snack bar but it isn't cheap. Check website for various prices.

How wet do you get while tubing? A lot of the pics I notice everyone is in regular clothes and sneakers.
Feita em 30 de julho de 2018
Tubing is just one of many activities we have here at Ausable Chasm. If tubing swimwear is appropriate attire. Thank You
