One of my favorite parks on Long Island, this 691-acre state park was formerly the home and grounds of wealthy Long Islanders, the Cutting family. Bayard Cutting had the Manor House built for his wife in the late 1800's, at the time known as the Westbrook Estate. The family donated the property to the NY State Council of Parks and it became the Bayard Cutting Arboretum, open to the public.
It is a beautiful place to go for a leisurely stroll, quietly sit and meditate along the Connetquot River, visit the chickens or stunning Dahlia Garden, hike several miles throughout the park or just meander through the lush greenery, admiring the hundreds of species of trees and plants. Each season holds its own reward. Photo opportunities galore.
The park is open Tuesday-Sunday, 10am-4pm. There is a large parking lot and the parking fee is $8 per car (April-November), but free if you use your NY State Empire Pass.
They also offer tours of the grounds & manor house, art exhibits and workshops throughout the year. It is a beautiful spot for wedding photos as well.
And, the Manor House is home to Hidden Oak Cafe, where they serve a delightful Victorian tea service and light snacks. Reservations recommended.

The estate is part of the NYS Parks System and is home of a wide variety of trees and flowers. There is a small farm and garden area with a large chicken coop that is a hit with the kids. The walk along the trails is peaceful and scenic. You can relax and enjoy some quiet time just sitting on one of the benches that face the river.

Spent a couple of hours here during covid in order to check out the dahlias. The park is very nice and a very easy walk. The dahlias are worth seeing but I would also recommend strolling the entire grounds especially along the river.
Worth getting out of the house and getting some fresh air to check out this park

Beautiful grounds on this riverfront property. My mistake was visiting in December. Next time I will return in the spring when everything is in full bloom. Plenty of walking trails leading to the Connetquot river. Beautiful scenery everywhere. Holiday decorations are starting to go up. Just another oasis on Long Island for a relaxing stroll.

In addition to being a beautiful place to visit, the Victorian High Tea is delicious. There are about 15 teas to choose from. The tea includes scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream, 3 different types of tea sandwiches and 4 different desserts. Reservations are a must. The tea is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.

Bayard Arboretum is a beautiful place to visit when you just want to get away from the hectic life and relax a little. The landscaping is beautiful, there are many interesting plants to admire. You can sit on a bench and take in the view by the water, or in a garden.I love the evergreen section, especially in the winter. The tea house island is a nice place to just sit and relax.
Taking a tour of the house is also quite informative ,learning about the Cutting family history, as well as the history of the Arboretum is very interesting. A must do at least once.
In the dining area you can have a nice lunch, or just afternoon tea. I like having tea out on the veranda in warmer weather, with a nice view over the water.
Every season has something new to offer, so anytime of the year is like a new adventure.

The gardens here are beautiful but the park is large enough that you get away from planned gardens and into nature. This is right on a bay and contains its own ponds with turtles. The main house is beautiful with a really nice little restaraut with high quality food.

Definitely worth going! Strongly Recommended. Note: if you wish to walk the whole journey, do wear long trousers, long sleeves and walking trainers; set out at least 2:30 to 3 hours before closing time.
Make sure your phone/camera is fully charged, because you cannot stop taking photos when you are there!!

I live only a few towns away from this arboretum and never knew how beautiful this place was! You can wander the paths and explore the different gardens for hours! We were there during a weekday in October so the $8.00 parking fee was waived. They only charge for parking on the weekends in October.
The cafe inside the main house, is a great place to grab a sandwich, salad or soup and take it outside to eat on the back porch. The food was delicious and prices are very reasonable.
I will definitely come back now that I know what a beautiful place this arboretum is. Don't miss the dahlia garden. It is spectacular!

This was our first time coming. We went on a beautiful Saturday day. We started off with a trip to the cafe to get some lunch. I got the BLT with chips. There was a line to order and then wait for your food to be ready. They had a seating area inside and on the outdoor porch. Beware, my gf and i went to picnic near the water and were told there was no picnicking so don't do that! The grounds were lovely. Gravel pathways along the river, cute little bridges and more foresty areas. Bring bug spray! Once we went to the forest area the mosquitoes were out in full force. One of the coolest things they have is you can go inside the weeping willow by the house and sit around the tree! Provided great shade and a reprieve from the mosquitoes as the twilight hour approached. Highly recommend.

Hello we are considering Hidden Oak for a Tea for a shower. How much pp was it. Did they also wine? How many sandwiches did each guest get? How many pastries?

With tip and tax, it was $38 pp. I don't think they can serve wine. We had a choice of about 15 different teas. Each person got an individual pot of tea. We each got a full size scone with clotted cream and strawberry jam, 1/2 a turkey sandwich, a triple layer ham salad sandwich, an opened face heart shape sandwich with fresh mozzarella, balsamic glaze, roasted peppers with fresh basil. The pastries were a slice of pistachio cake, a mini chocolate covered cannoli, a slice of lemon bar, plus another pastry but I don't remember what it was. The portions were larger than from other places we have had tea at. Most of us took home food because we were so full.
Is it handicapped accessible?

Sorry this took so long I overlooked the email. Keep in mind that fully ambulatory persons like myself probably underestimate barriers, obstacles and seemingly small curbs but here goes. I think there are a fair number of blacktop pathways that do not have a steep grade and a wheelchair user could manage independently. There are fairly extensive pathways that are hard, small pebbles that I think would be manageable for a person using a wheelchair however the pebbles may create drag so assistance from someone pushing might be necessary. There is an area along the river that is more dirt and pebbles, and after a heavy rain it is a bit mushy. I am drawing a blank on the accessibility of the "house" and am reluctant to assume that there is a ramp. There may be a map on the website that differentiates the make of the pathways. Hope this helps.

I’m not sure, but I would think so. There are no guards at the gate. You pay at a machine like a parking meter. They drive around in carts once in awhile for tours and to make sure everyone knows to leave by five pm. However, most of the time you would be on your own to take whatever photos you like.
