I like Rockaway Beach better than Riis. The boardwalk was concrete, instead of wood planks. It's hurricane resistant, as this peninsula gets hit hard. Be very careful walking, sand on the concrete can make a potential hazard. Beach was clean and the lifeguards were out. Maybe, I'm spoiled living so close to the beach at Robert Moses State Park.

We went on a warm Sunday, got there at 11am. We expected to see a ton of people, which we did. But that being said, we had an excellent parking spot (3rd row, right in front if walkway, there was a $10 parking fee which was more than worth it) and the beach is so large and long, yoh didn't feel like there were a lot if people. The sand is soft and clean, the water is clean as well. It was nice and "quiet" till about 3, which was when we started to feel how many people were actuslly there. But even then it wasn't bad. The boardwalk has plenty of bathrooms (with toilet paper, no soap, clean) and really nice eateries, reasonably priced, most accepted credit cards, some were cash only. Even though it costs to get in this beach, it is more than worth it.

Riis Beach is a long stretch of beachfront that has greta sand and water. There is a good stretch were there are life guards on duty and a not the long section which has no life guards. There are family sections, young folks areas, a gay part and just about everything you would expect to find in NY. It is a great beach a nd a summer treasure for NYers.

What did we do wrong? Went there last Friday afternoon, after the rain stopped. Does the whole beach just close down when it rains in the morning?? I read there was a lobster boil every Friday evening...but there was nothing! I read there were vendors...but there were none!! I read there was an arcade...but it was closed!! This was the biggest waste of time on our whole vacation!!

This Sunday was a great beach day. The perfect weather it was hot but the chill wind coming from the ocean may it feel cool and nice. Love to go there on weekends to relax and have a few drinks with my friends. A must do for people that love the beach and sands. There is a Boat and ferry from New York City.

There are plenty of folks who know how nice Riis Beach is. What amazes me is how many NYers don't know about or get out there. It is worth the trip to the Rockaways for a great day at the beach.
