They had a a pretty good 10 minute film on Smokey Bear and the museum was small but cool to walk through. Staff were really friendly. The grave is accessible even when the museum is closed and is in the park next to the museum towards the back.

You will see a monument for fireman and Smokey’s final resting place. There’s also botanicals throughout the park. It’s small but worth it.

Driving across central NM we had time to stop and feel nostalgic. We grew up with Smokey the Bear as our first introduction to conservation. The attendants gave us ideas of many areas to visit over the next two days on our way west. In this day and age a tribute to fire fighters in the wilderness is so appropriate. A great stop for kids to learn about the natural area along with a small playground.

It doesn't take long to tour the museum and grounds. Be sure to watch the video. Friendly staff! I learned about Smokey the Bear through my Weekly Reader in school and the many commercials on TV. The grave visit almost seemed personal. Admission was $2 so affordable for families.

Smokey the bear is a national treasure and the historical park is chock full of a informative movie, memorabilia, posters, a lovely xeriscape garden, a firefighters memorial, a playground and picnic area. There is also the resting place of Smokey the Bear himself. You are also right next to the gift shop for souvenirs.
Do not miss this place!

We visited here during our recent stay in Ruidoso. The park brings back memories of childhood for those of us somewhat older folks and is educational for the younger generations (our teenage kids didn't even mind visiting it!). The facility is very clean and set up well to allow you to get through everything in an hour or so. Recommended if you're in the area!

Enjoyed the walk through the park and taking pictures with Smokey. Very nice monument to the fallen wild fire firemen. Very peaceful waterfall and stream. Very fitting that Smokey was laid to rest in the area that he was rescued!

We were NOT allowed to walk around the OUTSIDE because we are not residents of the state of New Mexico. How is this even legal? They will take our sales tax money but not let us in an OUTDOOR state run facility? We drove to Lincoln, New Mexico to their state run museum and were allowed to walk around INSIDE. Ridiculous!! Shame on you.
