Love coming here to walk the grounds and see the gardens in the summer. Definitely a nice place to walk as a family to get out and enjoy a sunny day!

We toured the garden while staying at the castle (see separate review). The gardens are very nice, but clearly need more funding- they were bigger and better in years past, but the NJ government has been cutting funding every year (though NJ spending has gone up 30% in the past 4 years). The castle is beautiful and very cool to stay at, but all our 3 sets of windows leaked badly during a bad rain storm, and the power went out for the entire night. The state needs to step up and fund this place, it could be so much better.

Such a lovely house and beautiful gardens! Although the volunteers do an amazing job, there's way too much for just volunteers and a handful of gardeners to do! So glad to know that NJ mows the lawn. But, SHAME ON NJ for not providing all the needed funds to better maintain the house and gardens! This is a historic site and a beautiful location. I hope NJ can step up and provide the funds needed. PS Though the uploaded photos may not show it, the NJBG is in need of some TLC. Not to mention the pump house which needs to be repaired and the roads which need repaving. But, not to dissuade you....Go! It is a lovely place, not to be missed!

Beautiful grounds! We recently did our engagement photo shoot here and there are plenty of photo ops. There are three different lots so if you’re looking for the Skylands Manor (where majority of shoots are done), then it’s Lot A. I think you need a permit if you’re shooting a large group or if you are having your actual wedding there, but our photographer said he has never run into any permit issues with engagement shoots.
I believe there are certain times you need to pay for parking, since there is a toll booth but we didn’t have to pay in mid-May.
There seem to be plenty of trails around so I would love to come back for a hike when we’re wearing the proper attire.

With the COVID pandemic, we have not ventured out much and this was our first day trip! We were looking for something to do outside with room for people to be as socially distant as possible! This was a great choice and we wore our masks when we were in close proximity to other people which was not that often! Beautiful grounds and one walkway and statue reminded me of Greece! It is nice to know you can try to enjoy things that are closer to home! We will definitely visit the gardens again!

Nice place to walk around and see some pretty scenery. It's a bit small and I believe in season they charge for parking. We were also surprised to learn there is no food allowed.

Went right after Covid and face masks were required. Didn’t feel like it was Necessary when wandering around since we went early and not a lot of people. But ask more people come we put them on. Just beautiful there and dog friendly!

We attended a wedding at this facility. It was not very organized. There was snow and slop around the outside, grounds not cleared. Cocktail hour in separate rooms, therefore guests separated. Very few enjoyed the oysters in the back room. Had to walk though outside garden to get to ballroom, in Feb this as a bit cold. This may be a beautiful place during the spring, summer or fall but would not recommend for a winter wedding

How do I find certain spots that I’ve seen pictures of online? Is the park too big to see the whole thing in one visit?
Chubsyn

The park is not too big, especially the botanical gardens. You can always drive to another spot if necessary, for instance, Shepard's Lake is at an entirely different section and a must-drive to from gardens. But the Manor and garden areas are walking distance.

I visit Brooklyn Every year. We try to vist different parks or Gardens in New York as a matter of Horticultural interest. Being a member of my local Horticultural Society here in London UK Brooklyn Botanical Gardens is a must each time we visit. Always something different in bloom. I would like to know more about Skylands. How to get there & what is available , I could not find much on the Website, Perhaps there is not enough publicity to attract visitors..No transport directions. On how to get there.

As far as I know you can only get there by bus out of Grand Central in NYC or by car. Directions by car are simple coming off the G.W.Bridge you would take Rte 4w to Rte 208 to 287S to exit 55 make a right off the exit at the next light make a left onto Ringwood Ave go approximately 5 miles and follow the signs.

How is the foliage? If anyone can give a nice description, would be helpful for me and my family.

Since I was there during the summertime, I would have to guess. The foliage is quite lovely at this time in most areas…so I would imagine it should be as beautiful in Skylands…and along the way until you reach it. It is a beautiful area…worth experiencing.
How much is the fee to visit the museums
smitty60
Mercersburg, PA341 contribuições
The fees listed above are for tours of the ground floor of the manor house on Sundays.
Also, if you find yourself in Ringwood (my hometown) during the week, parking is free and you can roam the NJ State Botanical Gardens and the grounds of Skylands Manor for free. On summer Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, there is a state parking fee of $5 for NJ-registered vehicles and $7 for non-NJ-registered vehicles.
Skylands was my playground as a child; I lived nearby, and the grounds and manor were in a state of abandonment! It was wonderful - but is even better now.
