The hike was a bit of a challenge, but well worth the view! The views were stunning. You will want to quit, but don’t. Bring water, you will need it with the dessert air.

This is a beautiful hike full of breathtaking views. Be sure to bring water and take lots of breaks along the way if you aren’t used to the elevation.

My favorite hike. With the elevation gain, it is a challenging hike. Bring water and good shoes. It is significantly cooler so check the weather before you go. At the junction about half way up, going to the left will take you to a little waterfall. The views before you hit the switchbacks and on the top are amazing. The best part of the hike is feeding nuts to the squirrmunks. Sooo cute!

I have been hiking Mt Charleston for over 25 years now , wow ! This trail has improved since the first time I did it , especially when you get to the end . It used to be pretty treacherous when you got to the top , now it has cutouts like steps when you get there , so much safer now . When you get to the top , you have a great view and you will have some visitors to greet you , chipmunks . They always show up to see if you have some spare trail mix . Large area to sit on the rocks and take in the view and have a snack before you head down . I wouldn't recommend doing this in the winter or any of the trails in bad weather . It is a great getaway from Vegas and usually about 30 degrees cooler .

This trail ends with a panoramic view with plenty of space on the rock outcropping to sit and enjoy it, even with all of the other people who are doing the same! When the trail appears to split into two parallel trails, stay on the lower one (see the photo someone posted here, the marker will say "trail" and point right) the trail will end up veering right to take you to the overlook.

My son and I did this hike today and really enjoyed ourselves. We arrived at 9am and suggest not getting there much later if you want to find parking at the trail head on a weekend. About 25 degrees cooler than Las Vegas is always a good reason for this 50 minute drive to do a 3.5 mile out and back hike with an amazing view up top. There was a small water fall about halfway up which rejuvenated us. You will feel the altitude when hiking, but plenty of shaded spots to take a break with benches along the way. Nice bathrooms at the parking trail head which was a surprise to see. The trail is well marked and the visitor center by the round about as you enter Mt. Charleston provides maps and a lot of good information on different hikes in the area. Plenty of hike in the area for families or extremists.

Get off the couch!! And have fun.

The base of this hike is an easy, picturesque, 45 minute drive from downtown Las Vegas. If you’re looking for a beautiful hike where it is at least 30 degrees cooler than Las Vegas, this is the place for you! It is also close to the Mt Charleston lodge which is a great place to have lunch or a snack after completing your hike. Be sure to take water and snacks, wear a hat and sunscreen, and take hiking poles if there is snow on the trail. We did it in early June and encountered an avalanche area that was covered in snow (had happened weeks prior). With some effort, we climbed up on the snow but couldn’t figure out where the trail continued. At this point we had already climbed about a mile up so were pretty close to the top (maybe half mile away). Fortunately we met two groups of experienced hikers and they said they were turning around due to the weather. We looked up and noticed that dark clouds had rolled in. Oops. They said you don’t want to be this high up with the weather that was coming. They recommended we turn around and do the Fletcher Canyon hike instead which was a great suggestion (see my separate review for that under Mount Charleston). They also pointed out where the trail continued and the embankment we needed to climb over to get back to the trail (up the avalanche area on the right hand side). The next day we returned with our hiking poles (which we didn’t have on the first day) and were able to climb over the snow and then continue to the top. We both loved this hike and would do it again. If you’re deathly afraid of heights, you might not like it. I’m actually scared of heights, but was able to complete it by just avoiding the edge. There are several benches that you can sit and rest at on the way up. There are upper and lower parking lots and the trail starts in between them. Both lots have restrooms. We went on a Wednesday and Thursday in early June and had no problem getting a parking space. Our other favorite hike in these mountains is Mary Jane Falls.

So Nice to get away from the Vegas heat! This hike is simple with some steep parts, but my 7 year old son was able to keep up as well. The view at the top is stunning and so serene. One of my fave hikes!

This a great hike in M. Charleston....it is a very popular hike. While the hike is only 1.5 miles one way, it is a very steep hike. Once you get to the top, the views are well worth it....take time to enjoy it. The nice thing about this hike is there are benches places periodically along the way to the top to stop and rest. Love this hike!
