A wonderfully restored physician home office and farm at the gateway to the west in the early 1800s. Interestingly enough earlier in the day 200 miles to the east we visited the memorial for Abe Lincolns childhood home memorial which represents a stark contrast with its cabins being hewn out of the wilderness frontier.

This was a quick tour has the house is not that big but worth the time. Very inexpensive and if you eat next door at the The Barn - you get a $1 off the price. I just did the house - did not get to the library has the hours of operation are short 11-2 and I didn't get there till 1:30 - after eating at The Barn. Most of the furnishings are of the time period - not original to the house - except a few things. Still I great history lesson.

The Sappington House and Museum sit in a beautifully picturesque park right where Grant's Trail meets Sappington Rd. The grounds are just lovely and have a small pond with seating around it, and there's a genealogy museum right onsite as well. The house itself is like stepping right into the past, full of amazing antiques and each has it's own story, told lovingly by the tour staff. I highly recommend a visit for anyone who enjoys learning about the past.

Sappington House is one of those diamonds in the rough located in Crestwood, Missouri! Great tour of historic home lead by informed guides. Their is also a small garden and very cute, unique and delicious resturant "The Barn" located on the premises. The Barn has a variety of breakfast and lunch options, as well as a full bar and scrumptious homemade cakes! The home is 2 stories, so beware if you cannot negotiate steps. The resturant is ADA (accessible).

We visited the historic house on a day of a 1800's Wedding Re-enactment. On the grounds we watched the wedding and enjoyed the free wedding cake they offered. In the House they were not offering formal tours, but allowed us to walk trough the bottom floor of the house for free. The ladies in the house were very informative and friendly. I look forward to coming back and taking the tour - which costs $5. I am sure the tour guides are full of interesting information and stories that I will enjoy hearing.

My husband and I took friends for lunch and were pleased to see that breakfast was still available even at noon. My friend and I split the eggs benedict special with hash browns. Everything was perfectly prepared and extraordinarily delicious. It's just a wonderful place for an afternoon meal.

The Sappington House is on a busy street but was once the center of a thriving 1800s farm. The house appears as it did nearly 200 year ago. Our guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. This is not a home to tour for small children but if you enjoy architecture this is a definite must.

I used to think that the Green Parrot was the most pleasant place in St. Louis County. It got nudged out by "progress". Then came the Butterfly House, but there is no real restaurant there beside the lake. The Boathouse in Forest Park is nice, but not close enough for an impromptu tea.
Thanks to a friend, we recently re-discovered Sappington House which is very close to home and may be the loveliest spot for miles around.
Through the efforts of an impassioned group of volunteers, the former home of John Sappington, an historic figure in the area after which Sappington School and Sappington Road are named, have been lovingly restored with historic accuracy. The surrounding grounds, lake and garden are manicured by hand, and it shows.
This is a sweet place to while away a pleasant afternoon and should not be missed by anyone interested in local history or - a pleasant step back into yesteryear.
Our rediscovery came with a trip to The Barn, but that's another story. Check out the Sappington House website and you will see why I highly recommend both the museum and The Barn.
