Great for a Quick Visit
out de 2021
Visited on a quiet Monday late morning and had the place to ourselves. There is a nice stone dust path to follow that would allow wheel chair access. The wooden sculptures are quite interesting and the information posted helps to understand what this was all about. Still much work to be done.

This nature and sculpture preserve celebrates Bernard (Blackie) Langlais' legacy and includes part of his former homestead. We walked around much of the property and enjoyed viewing the wide variety of sculptures many of which fall into the whimsical category (i.e. Tricky Dick in a marshy pond).

Weird, unique, humorous sculpture park
set de 2019
We stopped to visit this sculpture park in Cushing during a bicycle ride across Maine. The art proposed is at the same time touching, unique, humorous and beautiful. It definitely is worth a walk through this lovely park.

The facility has parking and a port-a-john but no picnic benches.

Entry is free of charge

A cute museum worth a short diversion

This is a gem of a location. It takes about 45 minutes to tour the sculpture gardens and the studios. The art is funky and quirky and fun. The grounds are wonderful and worth a walk around.

Oversized sculptures wandering loose in Maine
jul de 2019 • Casais
We were driving along a back road in Maine when we saw a sign for a sculpture park. I had low expectations, but these were soon replaced by awe as we got out of the car and saw the sculptures that awaited us!

There was a grouping of bears, each with it's own personality, elephants wandering the country side, the largest wooden hand you've ever seen, or ever will see!

At the entrance to the the park you learn about Bernard Langlais and the art he created. This park was his creative residence for 11 years, and the intrepid traveler should add this to your "must see" list of mid-coast Maine.

In this area of renowned artist, Mr. Langlais' work was important and so easy to see in person, it needs to be seen to be appreciated.

Wooden sculpture whimsy

Large scale wooden pieces depicting human figures and animals in a forest setting. Nixon rising out of a swamp, angular cow and elephant, a nod to local artist Andrew Wyeth and a bas relief menagerie

A fun experience!

Bernard Langlais had excellent artistic skills as well as a good sense of humor and his animals reflect that. The small preserve has been laid out through the woods using stonedust pathways to reach huge wooden animals .....and a couple of humans .... in cleared spaces. The explanatory signage is interesting and well done. I loved the Noah's Ark sculpture which was the only one not on the path system....it's reached over a lawn area. Also fun was Dick Nixon giving the V sign while standing in a swamp.

We visited at a time when the house wasn't open, but it's still worth a visit. I think the paths may be HP accessible, but not sure. In any event they appear to be quite level and easy to walk. Parking was easy. This preserve is just a few miles off Route 1 out of Thomaston and would be a good side trip when visiting Rockland and/or The Olson House.

A Gem and worth the find.

Larger than life sculptures found on the mid coast. A nice quick walk around to see these wonderful works of art. The main house is open where you can see Langlais's workspace. There also might be a longer hike around the property but the stars are these wooden sculptures. And they also have activities on certain days. And it's Free. Explore your backyard.

A unique art in nature experience
out de 2017 • Amigos
Only recently opened, this art in nature experience celebrates the work of artist Bernard Langlais. Set on the property where he and his wife lived and worked, there are now nature trails winding amidst his monumental sculptures. His home and artist studio spaces are also open, and on the weekend there is a docent who can share additional information. This is definitely worth a side trip to see, and make a point of walking the trails and seeing the indoor exhibits.
