Small, but well done!!
jul de 2021
Paducah was a railroad and river town. The Illinois Central was a huge influence in this town, and the museum has a lot of IC items to look at. The volunteer staff love their museum, and it shows. I like trains, and I really liked this museum. It has a bit of everything, and I hope they get the train simulator back up and running. It is unique.

Sub-par experience this time.
set de 2020 • Família
I understand Covid has changed a lot of things recently, but the Railroad Museum is NOT what we experienced last time we were here. It is not only in a bit of disrepair, the workers were slightly rude when responding to questions. ALL interactive exhibits are shut down at this time, but the website doesn't say that, and there is no indication when you walk in that your experience will be limited. It is only AFTER you pay, when you get to the first electronic display, that you can see the signs stating they are not in operation. The simulator was shut down, no electric trains were even connected to power, and there was no one wandering the museum to tell you about anything to make it more interesting. After our first visit two years ago, this visit was a huge disappointment.

great train simulator
ago de 2019
Great model train display. The lit up school bus terminal was cool. Great dispatcher desk. The simulator brought the child back into my husbands eyes. The gentleman helping out with that needs to talk up louder though especially with seniors. Cute items in their small gift shop area. Overall a nice visit and everyone was nice.

Not worth it
ago de 2019 • Família
My son is 9 and loves trains. We were out spending the day together and decided to stop in. We came in around 2:45--3pm. The lady behind the desk was rude. We were the only visitors there and I felt as if she didn't want us there that late in the day as they close at 4. She greeted me with a frown and a forced, "can I help you?" as if she had no idea why we were there. I asked what the entrance fee was and she said, "sign our guestbook." Then she sighed really big and told me 6 for me, 3 for my son. As I was paying, he walked past the desk to look at a mannequin dressed in a train conductor's uniform. My son is respectful and does not destroy things, but he must've made an 'illegal move' because before I could pay and sign the guest book, she barked at him from behind her desk: "don't touch that! Don't touch anything!" I paid, we walked through 2 rooms. It appeared there was a room to view movies in, but no one told us anything about it. We snapped a couple of pics with railroad crossing signs and found ourselves in the back room where some trains were laid out on tracks, not moving. I said to my son, "well this is a big disappointment. There's really not a lot here" Suddenly a big man appeared in the corner, came walking toward us, didnt say a word to either of us, then flipped a switch on for one of the trains. We watched it whirl around some and I thanked him. Then i caught sight of the diesel simulator and asked what it was. He said it was "a boring, stupid, uninteresting and not well thought out exhibit." (He literally said that!)I said we would like to check it out anyway. We walked on board. He worked the entire exhibit, would not allow my son to sit in the engineer seat or pull the whistle. My son sat staring at the wall, obviously bored. I asked him if he would like to stand close where he can see the simulator and he shrugged his shoulders. He asked if he could sit in engineer's seat. Big guy ignored him and kept sitting in it. He mumbled about things I had no idea what he was talking about for the entire simulator. As I was starting to get bored and tell the guy we had seen enough, the lady from the front desk came and rapped on the wall and called his name as if she were his mother and he responded, "we're almost done." I said, "it must be time to go." He said, "yea, its 4pm." We walked up to the front where mean lady was waiting. I looked at her and said, "I'm so sorry but I need to use the restroom before I leave. My son probably should, too." She scowled at me and didnt respond. When we finally walked out, she did thank us for coming. I wont ever go back or take my kids back. It did not meet my expectations at all, with displays, simulators and especially the volunteers who are there, that seemed completely unhappy to be volunteering.

A young museum, bringing joy to train enthusiasts
out de 2018 • Amigos
This young museum, founded in 1996 is under the guidance of the Paducah Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society. It is located in an old building on 2nd street and Washington, in the heart of historical Paducah. It was actually started in the freight house building, just half a block away, but that building was sold, so the museum moved. It is now open Wednesday through Saturday, from 12 to 4 pm, with longer hours on Saturday. There is a token admission fee, with discounts for children. The exhibit includes a number of train memorabilia and objects associated with trains. There is a modern simulator that is a lot of fun and particularly great for those nostalgic about trains. Unfortunately, it only accommodates one visitor at a time, so if there are too many visitors, the wait gets long. The museum also has a model layout.

Nice, small museum
set de 2018 • Casais
This is a very nice museum for one that is an “all-volunteer” effort. Parts are still in progress but there is enough to see to make it interesting. It is also not open every day, so check their web site before you go. The exhibits are arranged nicely and they even have a working CTC Simulator. I have a lifelong interest in railroads, but I was able to learn a few new things there. I even found something of interest in the gift area, which is unusual for me.

Thanks for your review. We strive to make every visitor's experience interesting. Yes, due to our volunteer staff's availability, we are only open on certain days of the week, while riverboats are in port, the two Quilt Weeks, and private tours scheduled in advance. Our website, Facebook page, and all of our publications include those hours. Wednesdays - Fridays Noon - 4:00 p. m. and Saturdays 10:00 a. m. - 6:00 p. m.. We also close down for exhibit changes during January and February. Thanks again for your review. We look forward to serving you again. J. Logan Blewett Museum Director Paducah Railroad Museum

Was not my favorite train museum
jul de 2018 • Casais
Check hours/days of operation if you are going there. All volunteer staff. There is a 30 minute movie of the history of the RR's. There is an operating CTC machine? The locomotive simulator is one visitor at a time with a demonstrator. The wait was long, as we were part of a cruise boat group in town. They have a large train layout, but is was not being operated and was in an unkept display. A shame.

I am sorry we did not meet your expectations. Yes, we do have an operating CTC machine in our rear gallery and its use can be demonstrated upon request. We try to get as many visitors through the simulator as possible and yes, we do bring more than one visitor at a time as it is feasible. We try to give everyone about 15-20 minutes inside the simulator to allow everyone to get the feel of a locomotive, hence there is some wait time involved. When the visitorship is high, we have to shorten everyone's turn inside to accommodate everyone in the Museum in a timely manner. As for our model layout, it is in a state of construction. Our main builder is also our main simulator docent. So, he does have some time constraints to deal with when it comes to building. He is also legally blind so, we consider ourselves blessed that he accomplishes as much as he does. The layout is operational. There may have been a problem that was resolved after you left that my staff did not notify me of as these things tend to happen on a regular basis. Finally, our hours are posted, on our website, on Facebook, signage, and publications. No, we are not open daily as some other museums as you noted. We are all volunteer and we have to work (for pay) to make a living. If you ever make another trip to Paducah, please check us out again. I hope then we can met your expectations at that time. " The History Of The Paducah Railroad "
jul de 2018 • Casais
We visited the small Paducah Railroad Museum and was able to see some of the history of the railways in Kentucky. The first big room in the Museum is set up to give you the history of the Railroad system in Paducah. The back room of the Museum is primarily et up for model trains. They also have a train simulator so you can feel what it is like to have actually drive a train. A nice quick educational experience o the railroad trains in Paducah, Ky.

Great Little Train Museum
mai de 2018 • A sós
I love trains and visited the museum while my wife was at the Quilt Museum. The nice lady behind the counter made me a cup of coffee. Not many other were there at the time so the very knowledgeable gentleman gave me a personal tour. The train engine simulator was fascinating. Never seen one anywhere else. Many artifacts and history. Paducah has a very rich train history as a side note. Quaint little museum. Would visit again next time we are there.

Hours must be inconsistent

We made a special trip to finally go through and the doors were locked. So I rate it poorly because they weren’t open at the time their advertisements and their door hours said. Disappointing!!

I am sorry that you made a special trip to see us and were not able to come in. Our hours posted on our rack cards, website, and door are correct, Wednesday through Friday, noon to 4p.m. and Saturdays 10a.m. to 4p.m. and by appointment. Did you happen to misread our hours and come in on a Monday or Tuesday as we have had patrons do that in the past? Private message me and I will see that we get this resolved. Sincerely, J.
