Goo job of summarizing Northbrook's growth.
set de 2019
As small, local historical Societys go this one is excellent . Set in a transplanted Inn and with a dedicated group of volunteers the Inn is open on both floors and has a small consignment shop filled with treasures. A couple of books on the area are available for
sale, The Fabric of Our Lives details the founding fathers and growth from a small, largely German farming community to an upscale suburb of Chicago.

Come to this old home that is now a museum with so many interesting historical pictures and items from Northbrook's past. Well worth the visit....and make a donation while you visit!

Despite living in Northbrook for a large chunk of my life, I had never visited the Historical Society and Museum. It was quite interesting. My mom and I interrupted a meeting but everybody there was friendly beyond belief. They all were exceptionally knowledgeable about the history of the Northbrook area. We were given a wonderful tour of the upstairs recreation of what a Shermerville home might have looked like back in the day. Beautiful decor and a fascinating look at life before modern amenities. There also is a consignment/gift shop in the back with some cool items that would be difficult to find anywhere else. A great place for anybody interested in the history of Northbrook.

I love going because I love the historical parts of Northbrook and being able to share it with my family. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. They do a great job with Shermerfest.

Very good if you are a visitor, Great if you are a Resident! It is just that the exhibits and information is much more meaningful if you live in Northbrook. Discovering The history of your town and how it started puts you in touch with the present and ads textures to the picture of your every day existence. so much has changed and it really wasn't that long ago. The museum is staffed by volunteers and people who have a sincere passion for the town and its history. If you have the time it is a must see.

Great Girl Scout field trip!
fev de 2016 • Família
My daughters scout troop visited here on a field trip and they loved it. They learned a lot about their local history. The volunteer was very informed & welcoming to the girls. This is a great field trip for scouts or a class. Call ahead to make arrangements for a group tour.

There are volunteers that guide you around ad explain everything about the museum. Everyone pf them is very courteous and appreciative of visitors.

There is also a small antique gift shop. Prices are very reasonable.

Just what you'd expect from an attraction with a '1776' address.....

When a Chicago-Milwaukee trip took two days, the Northfield Inn was a popular half-way stopover. The building was moved to its present location on the south end of the Village Green in Northbrook and lovingly restored. It still is a great place to stop!

The basement and first floor are ramp accessible. The second floor, which is a recreation of an 1890s home, is not.

The museum is filled with wonderful exhibits. All the rooms (sewing room, kitchen, bathroom, parlor, bedrooms, etc.) look as if the residents have just stepped out for a few minutes and will be returning soon.

The museum is staffed by dedicated and knowledgeable volunteers. The current hours are Thursday 10 - 2; Sunday 2 - 4.

There is plenty of parking (enter the lot from the east) and there's a playground on the Green to add to your family's enjoyment.

Admission is free, but donations are welcome.
