This is a nice place to have a view of the city and the marsh from the observation deck of the nature center and the boardwalk trail is a great way to get up close and personal with the marsh environment. We haven't yet been inside the nature center due to Covid but I know in the past they've run programs like family canoeing in the marsh or Zumba. We will definitely be back to see the inside of the nature center and participate in a program in the future!

What a wonderful place to have, that is actually close to downtown and the highways, but clear of them too. The DuPont building is almost all open, except for the gift shop/office on the 3rd level. I really wanted to see inside, because I like to check out everything there is anywhere I go. We had our masks on, the hours on the door stated that it should have been opened, but it was closed/locked. Bummer. A couple minutes later someone came to the door, and we asked about the restrooms, etc. inside and she told us we needed masks. No problem. Having masks has become a given, we had just taken them off.

I really don't think if the place was supposed to be open, that it should have been all locked up. But it didn't see very welcoming, so we ended up going to rest rooms on the ground level.

From there we traveled the loop on the lower level around the marsh. Quite a lovely and necessary natural place. It's good that people have begun to recognize the importance of marshes, swamps and more. We can't keep building everywhere!

This is a place that I think everyone in Wilmington should visit at some point. It is such a relaxing place right next to the Riverfront and has activities for all age groups. There is a center with exhibits and educational activities geared towards families. There are also planned activities like canoeing which are open to the public with registration.

I was there again recently when the new trail that leads to New Castle was inaugurated and plan to return more in the coming year.

We love to bring our grandchildren here and each visit is always different. The staff is very willing to answer questions and the views change according to the wildlife, time of year, time of day, etc. There is now a walk/bike path from the center to Historic New Castle though I haven't taken it yet. It's apparently 5 miles each way so would be great for any outdoor enthusiasts. It's located off the "beaten path" but is in the area of the Wilmington Riverfront. You can spend as little or as much time as you'd like.

Was here for work and accidentally stumbled on this restored waterfront! If you enjoy urban nature, quality park design and scenic walks, this is it. Take the time to visit this place.

What a great place to check out mother nature in all her glory any time of the year and the view from the boardwalk was fantastic as you are level with your surroundings. The building has four level's and each level provides an even better view than the one before.
We were just in time as the fish were being feed in the tank. There is plenty to learn if you wish or just enjoy Mother Nature.

While we visited when the education center was officially closed, the path through the naturalized plantings on the way to the center, and the boardwalk path through the marsh were beautiful.
It is so great to have a large piece of nature so accessible to Wilmington.

My wife and I came here to see what could be found. Local high schools had their teenagers here at the time we visited and their noise and energy made it a bit difficult to enjoy the Center. We looked around a bit, but the over-exuberant kids caused us to leave the area after only a few minutes here. We would have liked to spend longer here but the school kids made that difficult. When in Wilmington we would try coming here again.

When Sara mentioned heading over to the Dupont Environmental Education Center, my first thought was "WHAT?". Then we showed up and I was in awe. The DEEC is a very special place you need to visit. From there, you can view the city of Wilmington and enjoy where the Christina river and marsh meet.

This marsh is about 200+ acres with fresh water all year round. Even the water levels change, somehow, it manages to remain fresh. Some say that because it is a refuge for butterflies, turtles, hibiscus, beavers, and other wildlife, the animals help in keeping the water clean and filters out all the pollutants that come in. Are you fascinated yet? Ok! Keep going!

Not only do they aim to improve the environment and protect the wildlife, they also provide educational classes/workshops for both children and adults to stop by and learn about the marsh, its inhabitants, and how to be a great citizen to them.

I'm not going to lie by omission and not mention my connection with the snake in their reception area, however, I'd definitely suggest trying to connect with our little friends down by the marsh. It would change your perspective on life.

The Center was closed, but the walkway was open. Such a lovely, relaxing spot! The boardwalk can be easily traversed with a stroller or wheelchair. On our February walk, we didn;t see any wildlife, but it woudl be fun to visit in other seasons.
