This was a truly amazing experience! i gazed for hours through the hole in the rock thinking to myself "how the hell did that get there?" like surly you cant get a drill bit that sized!. best day of my life! thoroughly recommended.

The Tolven stone is in someones garden and does not look like an ancient stone at all! It looks more like a garden ornament. I also don't feel right taking pictures of it or even looking at it because it is in the garden of someone's cottage!

Ours stopped in a small lay by mid no where,you need to drive on around 1/4 mile untill you find a large white building. The Cross roads are a combination of shod road crossed by a farm track,pull into the left side of the track where you can park....well worth the journey.

My Husband and I decided to visit The Tolvan Stone. Our journey started a short distance from Gweek, a small village that lies on the river. Gweek is famous for its Seal Sanctuary, we took the minor road north from the village to Tolvan Cross to visit The Tolvan Stone.
The Tolvan Stone is a unique granite menhir that stands in the back garden of a cottage at Tolvan Cross, and it is over 7 feet tall. The stone is spectacularly close to the wall of the cottage (mere inches). We asked the lovely lady who lived there if we could view the stone and she kindly granted us permission. Towards the base of the stone, a large round hole measures 17 inches in diameter. This was used in fertility rites – the couple wanting a baby had to pass through the hole, on other occasions it was used for healing purposes.
At the end of the garden in the adjoining field there is a low barrow about 20 yards in diameter. Next to it is a cist which locals refer to as ‘The Cradle’, and this was used to place children in after they had been passed through the Tolvan Stone. We took some wonderful photographs of the stone.
