What a wonderful place. This park is full of life & vibrancy. We were lucky because it's been raining recently so the waterfall was very powerful & magnificent. Definitely worth the drive.

It is one kilometer from the parking to the Haew Rarok Waterfalls. It took us one half hour for one way hike. The Waterfalls are tall and beautiful. We took many pictures.

The walk is only 1km but the final descent is 200 very steep steps. Wear good walking shoes. It is lovely.

My family visited Khao Yai National Park during our December family trip to Bangkok. Personally think that the entrance fees to national park is quite pricey as it cost 400 baht for adults, 200 baht for children and 100 baht for a car plus local driver. However it is still worth a visit if you like nature.

The park is very huge and distance among attractions is far so you will spend a lots of time on driving. There are many monkeys along the road so be very careful if you are self driving. We spent around 4 hours there visiting 2 waterfalls, stopping at some view points and visitor centre.

For Haew Narok Waterfall, be expected to walk about 15-20 mins from carpark to the waterfall. The trails are paved and you will pass through some wooden bridges in between and it is an easy walk before you come to the last part of the challenging steep staircases. You must climb down these staircase to reach the waterfall view point. It will be challenging for old peoples and young kids who are less than 4 years old. The waterfall is about 60meter height but the water level has dried up a lot when we visited in December. Think the view will be great if water level is high. Nonetheless it was a nice visit for my family. Glad that we had added KY national park into our itinerary.

This review is for the entire national park.

Admission is 400 baht for foreign adults, 200 baht for kids (3-12 years old) and 50 baht each for cars and a local driver. So all in, a rather expensive day out, considering you are only allowed to hike one trail without a guide and make a couple of stops to view the scenery. It’s different of course if you’re camping overnight.

We saw a lot of monkeys, some deers and what looked like a salamander from a distance. About 75% of the day was spent driving as the attractions are very far apart. Food options are limited.

Haew Narok is supposed to be the highlight of the trip, however beware, the final descent via very steep wooden steps is not suitable for very young children and those who don’t like heights. You will have to return the same way to the car park, so again the steps aren’t great for those who don’t like climbing.

You will need to be physically fit to go on this trail. First 20mins are just flat grounds but towards the base of the waterfall are really steep and dangerous steps. If you dare, descent down to enjoy the majestic waterfall amongst locals and tourists.

We opt to alight at Pua Kluaimai Campground & do the 3 km trail through the forest to reach the Hae Narok waterfall. The walk was tougher than we thought & required a certain level of fitness - climbing over huge tree trunks lying across the trail, crossing streams (on a tree trunk 'bridge'), muddy ground, uneven path with lots of steep upslope & downslope climbs). The estimated time for completion is 2 hours, we took about 1 1/2 hours. We enjoyed the trekking (with all the flora & fauna, creek, mini waterfalls, cool fresh air), most of it along the creek.
The final portion (from the official car park) was a 1 km walk on pavement. However, it requires climbing steep steps.
The Haew Narok Waterfall was the most famous waterfall in the National Park, though we only got to view a section of it (It tumbles in 3 drops over a total height of 150 m). The fall we saw was attractive & worth the walk (& climb) in.
