Last week, I received a message from my fellow actress, mommy Doris Banaynal on Messenger that I'll be a part of the cast of the upcoming promotional and educational video of Casa Gorordo Museum, which is owned and managed by Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Incorporated (RAFI) under the Culture and Heritage focus area since when it opened to the public in the year 1983. I was thrilled to shoot again after almost a year of community quarantine and this is my first film project in this brand new year 2021. A good start for my year.

We are asked to dramatize and reenact the traditional "pamamanhikan" or "pamalaye" in the Philippines during the eighteen-hundreds of the 19th century. This is usually a formal occasion when the man together with his family members formally asks the woman’s hand in marriage in front of her parents, grandparents and the rest of her family.  Casa Gorordo is the perfect setting of a colonial era house which is known as "balay na tisa" (house with tiled roof) during the Spanish occupation in the country located in the historical district of Parian near Colon Street (the oldest street in the Philippines).

We have to wear the national dress like the traditional Barong (an embroidered long-sleeved formal shirt for men) and  Filipiniana dress/traje de mestiza (a traditional dress for women) to depict the time period in history.

I realized it was my first time to get inside the museum. I'm not even aware of the history of the house, but because of the guidance of our script writer-researcher, Mr Renren Tabada Alatraca, we learn to appreciate its interesting facts and trivia that open our senses during the entire shoot. It made us understand the background story of the house that we can apply in our performance as actors as we play each character effectively.

The museum observed the strict health protocols for the staff, the crew and the cast to follow. We're told to shoot our scenes by batches. Some actors in the other batch weren't with us during the shoot and it was quite a challenge for us to act as if they're with us.

This was the third time I’ve visited inside Casa Gorordo Museum ... since for now retiring from Australia 🇦🇺 here in Cebu City 🇵🇭 2 years ago

Casa Gorordo Museum ... is another interesting Historical Cebu House Style Museum ... found downtown from Colon St , very near the magnificent Cebu Heritage Monument & impressive Yap-San Diego Ancestral House ( this ancestral house is another museum )

Entrance fee - P120 ...
• apart from an informative guided tour & 10 min history video ( this video can be shown in some different languages )
• you also receive a information booklet about the Casa Gorordo & a nice sovereign shell key ring

This informative , 2 floor well air-conditioned Museum was interesting to look around ( even with the guided tour ) ... it was like walking back in time , through someone personal home 😃 & their lifestyle

The Casa Gorordo house was built in the 1850’s & occupied by the Gorordo Family in 1863

Attached to the museum
• there’s also an upstairs Tourist Shop ... that features products that are inspired by Filipino Cultural Heritage
• below at ground level , there’s a small comfortable cafe
- Iced American Coffee - P100

On the Museum grounds , is an open kept garden area

Casa Gorordo Museum is open
Tues - Sun
9am - 5pm

Although rather tucked away it is worth the hunt. An elegent mansion furnished in some style that has been tastefully restored to provide an introduction to colonial Cebu downstairs and an insite into domestic life of wealthy merchants in the prewar era. Very good guided tour provided by knowledgable and enthusiastic guides.

I'm a Filipino and I just fell in love with this place. The guide is very knowledgeable and humorous and she's a college student! I can tell she will be successful with just how articulate she speaks. I get to learn so much of how we lived before. I will definitely come back with friends next time.

From the get-go, you have a knowledgeable college student as a tour guide that provides insight and humor into each room. There’s well constructed wall art that shows the history of the family, a video and animation on the growth of the city around it. Be careful to listen for any warning from your tour guide because you might accidentally enter a “cursed room” and be forever single. If you’re a man, be sure to sit in the dad’s chair and air your balls out.

かなり裕福な暮らしをしていたと思わせる屋敷を博物館として展示してあります。見学者には説明担当がついて案内してくれます。ビデオ上映もあり、セブ市の歴史を一通り学べます。

I did this tour in aug of 2017 and today with a friend visiting from NY. Today we had V as our quite. V kept us interested with her well paced flow of information and facts. You feel a sense of being there with the family of the house. My visitor was quite happy filling up his storehouse of knowledge. My wife and I enjoyed hearing about life in the early days. Thanks V.

I would like to thank the people and the organizations involved in preserving this ancestral home of the Gorordos. My kids enjoyed the tour so much and this gave them a glimpse of Cebu during the Spanish era. I was personally awed myself and the visit reminded me of my love for history.
