Walk up a lot of stairs to the rim of the crater where there was a spectacular view of the crater lake and ocean. The surroundings were very rugged and we saw many of Darwin's finches.

This Cove and the lake behind it are lovely. It is a bit of a climb up to the main viewpoint over them both but worthwhile. It is possible to walk around the lake (I believe) but its a long walk and we turned back

Lots of wildlife to see here. This was one of the stops on our tour and it was worth the time to see things here.

This location provided a lovely hike up to Darwin Lake as well as close up views from the panga of dramatic rock formations. Lots of blue-footed boobies embedded in the rocks. Rich in wildlife along with a calm anchorage, this was one of my favorite stops on Isabella Island.

There is fine snorkelling to be had in this quiet graffiti lined cove.
A 45 minute climb leads to the rim of Darwin lake, a picturesque salt-water body wuth fine views of the surrounding volcanoes.
One of the must sites of an Isabela Island cruise.

We arrived to much graffiti on the cliff faces but learned that these were made by sailors of the past. The path starts with approximately 128 steps onto a trail which is a slow ascent through palo santo trees and passing the Darwin Lake which is an unusual phenomenon. At the top the views are stunning looking out to the surrounding islands and volcano’s. Not much wildlife other than finches when we visited.

We landed by Zodiac from our small cruise ship, and walked the paths to the top of the trail. The steps at the start are quite steep, but worth it. Darwin Lake us great to see, and the trail continues well-marked. The views from the top are spectacular. There are no facilities, so take plenty if drinking water.

At the bottom of the trail, we were quite surprised to see some "graffiti" - names and dates of previous ship visits. The oldest we saw was 1836.

Well worth a visit, with lots of birds to see in the trees.

We went on a relatively easy, modestly uphill hike, early in the morning, to get a nice view of a crater lake adjacent to the ocean. There was only one other boat in that area. It is important to go early to avoid the heat. We went snorkeling nearby, but I don't recall anything exceptional about it.

Our guides from "the Letty", a yacht operated by Ecoventura, took us to Tagus Cove. The first thing you see when you get there is graffiti from the early 1800s, left by pirates and whalers who would anchor here. We then continued uphill on a trail to an overlook above Darwin Lake which is 60% saltier than the ocean. From the view point you get a good view of the lake as well as Tagus Cove. The trail continues on uphill where you get views of leafless dormant bushes/trees against barren lava fields and lava flows on the sides of other hills in the distance and other volcanic features.. A very bleak scene. We snorkelled a bit where we got to see sea lions and a shark but once again the water was incredibly murky so it was not so good for pictures underwater. We were then taken on a ride along the entire shore of Tagus Cove and beyond n the panga where we were able to see many pelicans and blue footed boobies hanging out on the rocks and cliffs of the shoreline. We really enjoyed this excursion.
