This hotel is STUNNING and unique! The service is great throughout. It's an amazing place to relax. We bookended our trip here- we spend the first part with friends for a wedding and the second part to relax. They are pretty strict in the pool area- you cannot eat by the pool and you have to stay quiet- so it's worth noting- probably not the place to expect to chill by the pool with a ton of friends. I enjoyed one of the best massages I've had here- it's worth it to book!

The whole complex is beautiful and every detail has been carefully cared for, be it the hotel, the restaurant, the different areas, the museums, the temporary exhibition hall. It is a relaxing atmosphere in the heart of the city of Antigua.

La comida muy buena. El servicio muy malo. Demoraron 20 minutos en llevar una porción de frijoles y más de 30 min en llevar la factura. Tal parece que si no te hospedas allí no mereces un buen servicio.

I have had great experiences at Casa Santo Domingo in the past, the hotel is beautiful and we used to love it. Unfortunately the service is not. My family needed special room for limited mobility and it was indicated to us that they did have (btw really late responses) once that we do the reservation the person at reservations told us that the room that they could give us was only in the smoking area since those are the ONLY rooms for people with disabilities. What? Is that how they have manage “all special requests”?! We are traveling with a child and there is NO way that we will put her in a room in the smoking area. In the whole exchange of emails I wasn’t offered not even once a kind way to fix this. It sounds like it was my fault. My fault for having a disability and my fault for asking something different. I ended up canceling my reservation this time and disappointing my family since we were looking forward to staying there. Go to the museum, go to the restauran STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE! There are plenty of beautiful hotels in Antigua with great service.

Well, I’ll start with the good; the grounds are beautiful, especially at night, and the ability to stroll through the museums is nice. The food was excellent as well (we had breakfast).
Client service, however, needs an overhaul. The restaurant and front desk staff operate at a glacial pace. There is also a quiet, sombre, mood among them. We stayed at other places in Antigua and this was definitely not the case there. Maybe they aren’t treated well, maybe they don’t like their jobs, maybe they lack empowerment, maybe it’s a lack of training. I don’t know, but it does a disservice to overall experience. So much so that I probably would not stay there again.
Also, had a couple of issues with the management. Despite a 24 hour fee free cancellation policy, when i tried to cancel one of my two nights stay there (for other reasons), they would not answer the phone or return my emails. When I went to the front desk, they had to call a manager who did cancel my night, but then increased the nightly rate for my room by about $40 US dollars. This backdoor cancellation fee is a shoddy business practice. Also, when inquiring about a shuttle service back to the airport, I received two different rates from the front desk. The latter fellow I talked to wouldn’t honour the rate his colleague had given me the day before.
Overall, a lot of potential in this place, but the execution is not up to par with what they are trying to create and the image they project.

This place was worth every penny to be honest! Our itinerary for Guatemala was pretty simple- take a red eye flight to Guatemala, pick up our rental and drive to Antigua with a stop at Hobbitenango for breakfast before hitting Casa Santo Domingo.
Let me tell you, best idea ever. Check out my review for Hobbitenango later, when I got to Casa Santo Domingo it was a little rocky because there were long check in lines and it was only 12:50pm when I got there (check in is at 3pm) signs for parking was not clear since I came into Antigua from a different road so I parked on the street (make sure you pay for your *daily* street parking permit- $10Q) Google maps sent me to 7 Caldos parking lot for some reason. Anyways we were able to snag a room early, we booked a room close to the spa and it was wonderful. All of the bathroom products were L'Occtaine (which was very nice!) There were robes and rubber slippers for us. The restaurants on site were fabulous, drinks were great, pool was nice and the massages were the best I've ever had- anywhere! 10 out of 10 for the quality of massage (including the space they offer to give massages was wonderful!)
Things that were not so awesome were the wait times you had to experience to get a drink or food (I think they have one main bar and kitchen that they run food from back and forth despite having a dining/bar area in the spa). They charge you for bottled water once you run through your complimentary bottle in the room. Parking is so unclear on how to get to and what to do. When we checked in no one showed us around- we had no idea our stay included a museum tour, no idea where the spa was (initially). We were kind of left to fend for ourselves in those regards and that's a bummer because we figured out most of these things as we were leaving.
My suggestion is to have the front desk give people a pamphlet at check in and guide them through what's offered at the hotel and a map- the hotel is pretty large!

Uno de los lugares más espectaculares de Antigua, lleno de historia y obras de arte se puede conocer mediante tour sin estar hospedado en el hotel. $5 usd

This is not just a hotel, but museums and so much more! Take a tour and find out all the information about the history of the CSD. People are awesome! Food in restaurant was amazing! But it is probably the most expensive place to eat in Antigua, it is sit down and we felt very out of place in shorts after our tour (Everyone is dressed up) The sauce on their burgers is to die for!!!!

Casa Santo Domingo is an absolute delight. On my next trip I hope to stay here. The gardens are built around ruins, the museum is fantastic, the restaurant (although pricey for Guatemala) is absolutely incredible, and the spa is a dream. By booking a massage or facial you get a day pass to their incredible heated salt water pool, jacuzzi, sauna, and lounging area with rivers and cocktails. Highly recommend treating yourself to a day or many here.

Attended on New Year’s Eve with my family, there was a live mariachi band and beautiful scenery surrounding the restaurant. Our server Lauro Valle was kind, helpful and catered to our needs and allergies! Highly recommend this place.
