A nice hike around the pools, many of the trails were washed away or in need of repair. Need to be pretty agile on foot. Sadly a lot of garbage laying around that is a shame on society.

Peaceful, safe place to stay. The double room with private bathroom was great - clean, comfortable, cosy and relaxing with a nice view and deck to enjoy. The staff are all great and the receptionist went an extra mile to make sure we were happy. We enjoyed the hike to the waterfall just down the road, buses and taxis outside and the restaurant was reasonable priced with good specials, great views/ambience and the food is really good. The brownie and ice cream best I’ve had anywhere! Good specials too and we had live music which made for a great evening.

Nice place to take a dip in some pools. There are 2 different paths that lead to different sets of pools. One was better marked than the other. We picked a holiday weekend (Easter Friday) to go so it was pretty crowded with locals. We checked out all the pools and hung out for a couple of hours. The staff at the parking lot were friendly. We had a rental car so it was nice to know they were staff watching the lot.

Great place for a walk or a swim. You can access a short circa 2km return walk through the rainforest and around beautiful swimming holes by entering the park at the Ministries office, near the Eco Resort on Princess Rd.
Map is a little tricky to follow, but if you start in the first car park at the Upper Pools, just follow the water downstream to get to the Lower Pools. You can follow the same track back or return along the road for an easier walk.

Colo I Suva (pronounced tholo) is a great spot for all tourists and locals to hang out at.
I’ve been here a few times (before Fiji closed its borders), and I can’t recommend it enough.
The entrance fee is usually a few Fijian dollars per person.
When I’ve been, it’s usually taken me 2-3 hours to walk the tracks and swim in all the watering holes.
There are two major swimming holes, upper and lower. I would suggested wearing your bathers/swimming costume as well as sturdy shoes such as runners or converse (something you can slip on easily) rather than slides or thongs, as if it rains the track can become very slippery!
Bring water and some snacks, there are plenty of spots you can take a seat and rest and enjoy the views and see wildlife. I have never seen any wildlife in the water, but it is stated to swim at your own risk.
Have a go at the rope swing - the locals will show you how it’s done!
local tip- get a taxi into the rain forest and ask them to park ‘at the bottom’ this will save you time as you won’t be walking down 2 kilometres of steep decline. Ask the taxi driver for his number, so you can call them once you’ve done, and then they can pick you up again once you’re finish, saving you the time and your leg muscles to walk up the incline.

Shore excursion from SS Mariner. Hiked from upper pool to lower pool where a few of us had a dip. Exhilarating hike (watch your step) and rewarding swim in cool (compared to air temperature) water. Fun experience.

The waterfall trail requires difficult scrambling over slippery rocks, and in some places the trail nearly disappears. No signage to help you stay on the trail.

We stopped here on a tour and it was great. You have a little hike down. You have the option of going to the upper pool or the lower pool. We stayed at the upper pool and just relaxed. To see more, visit my YouTube channel Morgancita

Hi All,
Is it safe for individuals to explore the trails on their own? Is there much crime in the area? Thanks!

No , largely its safe but caution must be taken while traveling odd hours in nights.

Does this park have open and closed hours? Days of the week it is not open? (And if you do not know the answer, please just don't bother to respond... Guess I've read too many "I'm not sure, check with the office" type responses in forums today.)

It's open everyday, and closes at 4pm while it's still day light for the safety of your person and possession, as there are no lights inside the park area.

Good morning Frieda,
Prince Henry and his wife recently visited the park to plant a tree during his visit last month.
There is no bus schedule that goes on that route, a rental car would be appropriate.
Remember to take mosquito repellent, just in case you might need it, since Fiji mosquitoes love foreign blood ;-)).
Enjoy your trip.

Hi there,
I'm just wondering how you got in contact with the guide. I am looking around on the official website but did not find any information. Thanks in advance.

The gate to the park has someone there almost all the time but if not you can cross the street and talk to someone directly across the street from the entrance, they also have a video camera so don't try anything foolish.

Hi Maria, that is something that I am unsure of there's an office across the road from the park's main gate. The staff will be happy to answer assist you if you do visit.
Have a great time!
how long is the trip out from the port

Are you able to make your way to the park with your own hire vehicle or do you require a permit?
Christine A

There is absolutely no need to hire a car if you stay at Colo-i-Suva across the street since it is about 2 minutes on foot. The park is small enough that you will have no problem walking around.
Although, if you do stay in a hotel downtown Suva, and you have hired your own car, it is about a 20 minute drive from town and you can definitely come by your own means. Drive slow as you come in the park and keep your right to head over to the parking lot. From there, it is a 1 minute downhill walk to the swimming hole where the Tarzan rope is located.
*Do not leave anything in plane sight in your car unless you want to take a chance to get your car broken into.
Bring a snack or lunch, a good pair of hiking shoes, a towel, sunnies, a beanie and water.
Hope this helps.
Enjoy

Hi There
I am a keen trail runner (used to running on some pretty rough trails) and as I will be living in Suva keen to find some trails to run on I was just curious how many KMs the trails are? I will be training for ultra trail australia so was wondering are these suitable to run on

Definitely suitable. Lots of small side trails. Don't think anyone could tell you how many kms as things are not that organized or developed. Definitely 10 km of trails and dirt roads through the park, probably closer to 20 km.

Hi, I will be staying in Pacific Harbour in the evening but want to visit Suva and the park during the day (coming from northwest part of the island). Does anyone know if I will be able to store my travel pack at the park centre? Thanks

It may be a good idea to call the park office in advance to ensure their willingness and availability during the hours you plan to visit the park. Enjoy the visit!

How much is it to hire a tour guide?

We booked a small bus tour from a Fijian Tour Operator who was there when the Cruise Ship docked in Suva. The tour cost $20 Fijian (approx. $15 Australian) and took us through the city and then up the mountain to Col Suva Forest Park. Good value and lots of sights and information. The same Tour on the Cruise Shop would cost much more. The only disadvantage is the small bus was not air conditioned.
