A day to Unwind at Mukuvisi Woodlands
set de 2021
Located just 5 kilometers on the cities outskirts of Harare, the Mukuvisi Woodlands is the ideal spot to spend a personal day out of the office to unwind and have some personal time or spend time with loved ones. The quiet and tranquil nature reserve has many hidden and nestled layby resting spots to which one can either have a picnic or simply soak up all of the wildlife and natural attraction around the reserve. Offering a whole jungle’s worth of fauna and flora. The entire woodland reserve covers more than 200 hectares, and if you’re lucky you’ll get a glimpse of impalas, giraffes, crocodiles, and zebras. Other conventional activities include guided pony rides and bird walks, of which I highly doubt one would part take in as the ambiance at Mukuvisi is so relaxing, one can not but enjoy the serenity over a cold beverage from the nearby coffee shop. And to cap off the experience, one the way out a souvenir store in which to purchase a keepsake of what will no doubt ably a day to remember.

Amazing walk and a ring halo appeared round the sun. Yellow butterflies on the path. Great crocodiles and animals. Bird garden and tortoise. Totally awesome.

11km later

On arrival we asked at reception ... entry ... is this well signposted . We were assured that they had recently re done signage and was crystal clear .
We took the 5km walk ... easy to go ... but incredibly unclear to get back ... after 4 to 5km ... wasn’t checking then. Needless to say signs were not clear and we got lost in mid-day heat ...
11 km later ....
we managed to call and Lawrence a ranger was despatched to rescue us . Poor guy ... as he had done no wrong but got my wrath.
Also whilst lost we found another lost walker who joined us .

So sad that a fabulous walk was completely ruined by poor signage ... perhaps at reception we could have been warned that people with poor sense of direction can get lost ! Maybe then the walk and getting lost would be my fault !

BTW signage is stripes on trees ... different colors for different distance ... very few arrows ... and no indication of beginning or end

What should be a pleasant Sunday morning experience today turned into a complete nightmare after having got lost today. Despite assurances to the contrary on entering the complex after querying the signage system we where assured all was in full working order. We chose the 5 k route as we had a commitment to meet which we have now missed. We ended up walking 11.02km and going round twice, picking up other lost people on our way. Only when we phoned did someone eventually come to our rescue.
Had we been elderly or pregnant or walking with small children this could have been catastrophic.
I suggest someone in your organization takes this seriously and spends some of the entrance fee on clear signposting ( colour coding alone on old trees is not sufficient.)
Arrows and numbers and and clear signage in English and Shona Is what is needed. It’s not rocket science.
Please wake up and spend some money on making this a top activity for Harare that it clearly once was.
Would not recommend.

A Wildlife Walk
mar de 2020 • Amigos
We opted to see more wild animals while staying in Harare, and this Nature Reserve was the closest. It was the rainy season so was very quiet. We went on a walking tour with two of the interns. They have Giraffe’s, Zebra’s , Antelopes. We didn’t see any others as we were told they were the other side of the reserve. This is a rare woodland in the middle of a city and is non profit, managed by a handful of staff and volunteers. If you are in the city and have the time, it’s worthwhile going to support it.

A Walk in the Woods
mar de 2020
Mukuvisi is an ideal place to walk (or run - 10 kms of trails), enjoy peace, quiet and zebras. As a novice birder with only a few days in Harare, it was a perfect place to get out the binoculars and meander along the well marked trails. There's a bird blind and an observation platform to check out the impala and giraffe, etc. And the Cafe makes a nice cheese and tomato sandwich.

Un étonnement est possible à chaque endroit

Lors de ma visite dans ce parc, je suis tombé nez à nez avec un python en pleine digestion.
Il est dorénavant possible de louer un vélo sur place, ce qui est utile vu la taille du parc.
