scary river crossing
out de 2021
Amazing scenery. So many crocs nearby the crossing and people were standing in middle of the crossing with their fishing rods and beer. Looked like they were catching crocs with fishing rods. Too brave or audacious? Passing of a big road train by Cahills crossing was so thrilling. I can't understand the engineering: how such a small-width crossing build over rocks with so much water over the road can stand weight of a heavy truck.

Iconic river crossing
out de 2021
Park nearby and view from the area above the crossing. Take your time and just wait and watch. Water levels are tidal so the water level will vary. Crocs can be spotted in the water and on the bank as well as various fish and bird life. We saw 5 crocs at a very, very low tide, one being about 3m and others smaller.

This experience is a must!!! We have never seen anything like this before and seeing how those smart crocs line up for their feed is excellent. You can stay above on the proper lookout but others were on the road near the feeding area, obviously this isn’t safe but it’s such a thrill when you are there also, this is all at your own risk. Make sure you check tide times and be safe!

Crocs at cahill crossing

Worth stopping at on your way to ubirr. Main crossing into Arnhem land where you can see crocs in the wild. We saw a couple of crocs moving around In the water. Don't need to stay long.

Croc viewing?
jun de 2021
We arrived as the tide was rising and watched cars and buses slowly and carefully cross through the water, obviously the locals know when it is high tide so a few cars started to gather on the other side waiting to cross, it wasn't long maybe about 20 minutes and the water had dropped enough for the cars to start crossing again, there were many people fishing off the rocks and the crossing itself, we watched several barras reeled in during the time we were there, didn't see a croc at all but I'm not doubting they were there, apparently more are seen during low tide, there is a nice shaded platform where you can watch from or you can head onto the crossing itself if game enough, check the tide before heading out, plenty of parking.

Crazy fishing spot.

Arrived just on high tide. Roughly 35 mins from Jabiru. The Border Store is now an art gallery, and only sells water. Take provisions if staying for a while. Plenty of vehicles still crossed, and people fishing close to the waters edge. Saw one croc, which swam against the incoming tide and got close to the fishermen. Very interesting place to stop for a bit and watch the action . Lots of barra being caught as well.

No crocs at all but nice drive out there
mai de 2021 • Amigos
Drove out from Mercure Crocodile and arrived half hour before high tide. Stayed for 40mins. Viewing platform was packed. Lucky it is in the shade because it was very hot afternoon. No croc activity whatsoever. Saw a tour van cross over but that is all that happened. Nice drive out from Jabiru. Scenic. So it wasnt a total bust. Lots on control burnoffs on the roadside on the way out and back.

An iconic NT location and must see!

Such a cool spot, always lots going on here when I drive through. People fishing, people trying to cross (when the road/crossing is open and Gunbalanya is open and accessible), Guluyambi cruises coming down, all the birds around the place, other recreational users doing their thing, it’s stunning!
There are info boards up at the lookout, super helpful but they are quite weather.

Certainly worth a visit, but if you are crossing the crossing, DO YOUR RESEARCH, get the tides right and if it looks like there is a strong current or it looks deep, don’t cross, it’s that simple!
