Pleasant walk of minimally steep grade through shaded native bush. Lots of birdlife. Took us 90 minutes return at a casual pace. View at top good but 360 views could be improved with some trees being topped or removed. Would do this again but recommend walking pole.

I hate climbing hills, but walking up to the summit of Otanewainuku, on a good track through the NZ native bush, watching the native birds... well it isn't too bad! And what a reward with the marvellous 360deg views from the lookout at the top! Then, when back down at the carpark, cross the road and to start the easy walk to Whataroa Falls... another lovely walk through the bush. My friends and I have done these walks many times, we are so so lucky to have this on our doorstep!

Its a very pleasant walk with lots of natural trees and for a to see on the way....well marked and the fall are a welcome sight at the end of trail. Clean water. One thing is to make sure all your valuables are out of sight in the car...not sure if there have been any incidents of theft but it rather remote in the parking.

This is a relatively easy bush walk with well formed tracks. There are some steeper sections and parts where you need to climb over fallen trees so you do need a reasonable level of fitness and agility.

The falls are small with a lovely clear pool. We were able to picnic on a rock right beside them. If there are more than about six people at the falls there is limited space. Clean and unspoilt this treasure needs to be kept pristine.

No dogs are allowed as it is a kiwi area. There are no toilet facilities anywhere near the falls or the track.
Highly recommended for a great day out.

We’ve been here a couple of times as a family now. We’ve done both the summit walk and the waterfall walk, as well as the rimu loop. All are a great, tranquil walk, but they’re a definitely a workout too! It’s lovely to hear the birdsong too. Well worth a visit. Would be good on a summers day as 90% is in the shade.

I wouldn't really say this was in Te Puke? This track is accessed via Oropi road and has 2 walking track options, we did the summit track round circle. The signs say 40 mins to the summit and 40 back but if you are fit and keep a steady pace it will only take 25 each way. Would recommend choosing the clockwise route as there are steeper parts of the track this way that are easier to climb than they probably would be to descend. Could be quite tricky after a period of rain so I'd recommend going when there hasn't been rain for a few days. Absolutely worth the effort, the trig station at the summit has breathtaking 360 degree views. Make sure to lock up your car and take any valuables with you!

An amazing walk to the trig station on the summit of Otanewainuku. A well defined and maintained track through beautiful NZ native bush. The bird song is something to behold.
The walk is not difficult and does not require a high level of fitness.
