Today, my family and I, including my little boy who is 16 months old, visited for the Midland Red Family Day out. It was such a good day! We went for my Dad's birthday as he was interested in the Midland Red, and there was something for all of us. We were greeted by wonderfully helpful volunteers who pointed us in the direction of the overflow car park, where we were a le to swiftly get a shuttle bus down to the actual museum site. There were more buses on display than I ever imagined, lots of toys and things for children, so my son was having great fun. We grabbed a hot drink from the van and made our way around the attractions.
My favourite has got to be the ride along steam train. Again, run by super helpful volunteers who helped us store the Pushchair safely while we went on the train. This was £2 each to ride, but that's nothing to go around twice!
We then, to my Dad's absolute delight, boarded a Midland Red bus, which took us up to the maypole island and back again twice! You could hop on and off along the route, but we opted to stay on.
Thoroughly enjoyable day! I would say the wythall transport museum is a bit of a hidden treasure, and we will be returning.

The best school trip ever. It was very hands on for the children, who were ages 5 - 7. The hosts were very patient, kind, helpful, interesting and passionate about the museum. We were made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble for them.

We have visited wythall transport museum many times and we throughly enjoy our visits there. Ticket admissions people are so welcoming and all the volunteers around the place , on the miniature train, bus drivers etc are always so friendly.
Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the cafe experience. There are two individuals who serve in the cafe who need a reminder about how to deliver good customer service. Last weekend, one of the two ladies was more bothered about my 3 year old son simply playing with a table number on a table (not sure why they are even there as they don’t do table service) that providing good customer service. The other one looked horrified when I simply and politely asked for some brown sauce with my sausage roll and handed it to me reluctantly. I even heard her say to another customer to ‘make sure you return those salt and peppers immediately after you’ve used them’ which made me laugh but is also just not good customer service.
The press office and trustee bloke who I emailed the feedback to was not much better offering no apology and even proceeding to take the mick about whether I would like him to look at CCTV footage regarding the incident. 🤷🏻♂️ bizarre way to be as I was merely informing him of the unfriendly customer service we received.
All in all I’d recommend the venue but not the cafe, it also feels very much like you’re in a prison with the 2/3 cafe volunteers standing staring at you whilst you eat your sandwich. It’s happened a couple of times exactly the same way !

Great day out for bus enthusiasts. Lots of beautiful vehicles and informative displays. You can take free bus rides on the vintage buses. Lots of child/toddler friendly exhibits and play areas. Miniature railway, café and shop. There is a nice little picnic area with tables and a snack kiosk outside with a view of the train. Lots to see and do even on a rainy day!

Whether it's the crossing lights on the miniature railway [£2 per ride] better catering outlets or accessibility to the buses this museum has done a lot of work over the last few months for families, enthusiasts and visitors. Visit their website for opening times and days when events take place

We decided to visit this place as we had heard about it a few weeks previously and noticed online that there was an event happening. The place is small with a small car park on site, there is an overflow car park but not sure where it is. We were lucky to get a space in the small main car park. There are quite a few old buses and milk trucks etc which is nice to see.
On the day we went they were running a number of buses which did a 30 minute loop of the area which different buses went different direction loops which was nice. It would have been good if someone had given some information about the bus and potentially the area around the route that they went.
There is a small cafe here. There is also a small narrow gauge train which is an extra charge which just does a small loop around a small area.
Overall this place is good, the bus rides are good. If you are in the area it is good to visit.

Had a brilliant day here, went on a free ride on one of the old buses, plenty of old vehicles to see and explore, even got a miniature railway to go on. Highly recommended.

Always on the look out for dog friendly attraction in the West Midlands and came across this place whilst doing a general search. Website looked good and reviews also promising and it didn't disappoint. I went with my elderly parents (and the dog of course!). The site is fairly accessible, only difficulties come if you really want to climb up into the cabs of some of the buses. Entrance was £7 which was reasonable compared to most attractions nowadays and included a 30 minute ride on a vintage bus. Lots of bus memorabilia which prompted lots of memories. The size of the site needs to be bigger as some of the buses are parked too near to each other and it can feel a little cramped. Not sure if there is room to expand given where the site is located which is a pity as the buses deserve to be displayed more. We spent much longer there than the we thought when we first saw the size of the site. Cafe is very basic, OK for tea but very limited on snacks and pretty poor cake selection but overall fine for a brief respite. We all really enjoyed our time there.

Are visitors allowed to get on the buses and look around inside them in situ?
Feita em 1 de abril de 2018
mostly no. But it could be possible on some by asking the staff first. I seem to remember it was allowed on a couple of vehicles. there are of course usually local rides available for.

Note that the museum is now closed for winter and re-opens in April 2017. There is full disabled access to the two main display halls, the cafe and shop. There are disabled parking bays and a disabled toilet. The Shire Hall, which is the main workshop area and garage has closely parked vehicles which can restrict access on some days.
